Is there an easy fix to a suddenly locked up motor? Tried the breaker bar didn't work! Plenty of oil but could have used a change ... Oil pressure did drop a few times before seizing up?

SOURCE: Oil Pressure Drops While Driving

your oil pump is either weak or there is sludge i9n the oil pan. my adives is to have the oil pan dropped . chances are sludge is the culprit. as the oil get's warm the pressure should only drop slightly but pressure is generally dictated by engine rpm. pumps are gear driven so if it was a bad pump your oil pressure would start out very low at start up.

SOURCE: Low oil pressure in 1998 camaro ls1

First have your oil level checked and make sure that it is at the right level. If not that's your problem, if your level is good you may have a bad oil pressure switch. This can be checked by using a oil pressure guage. If switch is bad replace and solve the problem. However if your vehicle has alot of wear and tear on he engine and you were using 20w-50 oil and it was replaced with 5w-30 that oil may be too "light" for the vehicle and you would get a low oil pressure reading. Good Luck

SOURCE: i have low oil pressure in my 1994 chevrolet suburban

how low is dangerous low? are you going by factory gauge? need to run it with a mechanical gauge to see exactly what it is doing. if it is too low your only option is to replace oil pump and main bearings. these would be your wear items most likely causing low pressure.

SOURCE: Car stalls when oil pressure drops...20 minutes to restart

No it is a fail safe. When your oil pressure drops below (on most cars) 30 psi your computer will shut your fuel pump down until you either let it sit for a while and it resets or until oil pressure builds again. Sorry!

Why is my Ford territory oil pressure light intermittently coming on

Good Day

Firstly check your all Oil pressure switches if they are not faulty.
Remove your electrical oil pressure switch and fit a mechanical oil pressure switch and start the motor:Oil Pressure reading should be between 4-8 bar on the gauge.
Motor must be at working temperature.
If Oil Pressure is below 4 bar their could be a problem on your crankshaft.Depending on milage.
Your Big end and Main bearings determine your oil pressure.
If the engine milage is high this can cause oil pressure fluctuation as their is wear on the bearings.

How hard is it to pull the motor, the wife was driving it when all the lights in the dash started blinking and then the motor locked up. After removing the vale cover everything looks dry on top, the...

I would question whether the motor is "locked" have you tried to turn it not using the starter? (Large socket and breaker bar on crankshaft front bolt)
You may even free it this way. First pull the plugs and drop a small amount of oil in each cylinder.

When you do try to start it, do you hear and feel the starter engage then stop in it's tracks?

If it's locked, you would likely had to see a trouble light, like oil light on for a fair while before hand, assuming oil pressure failure.

Sorry this does not answer the first question, but I think you're jumping the gun with pulling engine.
Also, have you ever got a junkyard engine before, it's a LOT of work and you never can be sure it's any good. Warrenty is fine, but you still have to pull it again if it's no good. And there's always a difference in somthing.

My oil light started blinking. temp has not increased and there is plenty of oil in engine

Possible problems are bad oil pressure switch "OPU", blocked oil pick up tube or screen, or oil pump.

Start from the easier fix.
Change the oil pressure switch
Clean the oil pick up tube and screen in the sump.
Change oil pump.

Had the oil changed at walmart they put a fram filter on it and the filter caved now the motor appears to be locked up if the oil pump went out would it appear that the motor was locked up my husband...

Yes it is bearings, rings, and part of the cylinder. If the oil pump went out the motor would lock up. The oil pump pumps oil throughout the motor. If the pump quits, it is just like running the engine without any oil at all. Without oil pressure then the motor would lock up because nothing in the engine would get any lubrication. Don't think it has anything to do with the oil and filter. Probably just a faulty oil pump. I have heard of Walmart not putting oil back in cars, and causing them to lock up. But if you had oil in the car, and it has metal shavings, then it is more than likely the oil pump just quit.

Cant get oil plug loose

FIRST: oil the plug (I know it sounds redundant)
1. breaker bar instead of ratchet wrench (buy one if you dont have one)
2. extension bar on breaker bar handle
If Getting desperate:
1. buy a new oil pan plug
2. use a damaged/rounded extraction socket on a breaker bar.
3. use an extension handle on the breaker bar handle
Be prepared to buy (and install)a new oil pan if the threads on the oil pan are ruined.

Installing a new oil pan is "easy" for experienced mechanics, but
replacing one can be involved for 1st-timers - and you'll usually want to buy (and install) a new oil pan gasket with the new oil pan.

That's everything from breaker bar (your minimum for stuck bolts) to replacing plug and pan (the worst-case scenario).

Check your oil pressure gauge sender first. It might be the pump but often they wear down gradually. It might also be the pressure relief valve spring. Most likely it is the oil pick-up pipe in the sump. Take the pan off and inspect for crud blocking it. If clear it will be very easy to check the pump. The pump vanes are driven directly so any free rotation would indicate a (rare) pump failure.

I suspect you have had an oil pump failure. To get at the rotory gear oil pump you will have to drop the oil pan. After you take the pan off, ( having drained the oil the oil pump is what the oil pick up line leads into. That pick up assy. is a round shaped disc with a screen inside it. Clean the screen first then the oil pump. Install new oil pan gasket on reassembly. Hope that helps you. Please let me know.

Hopefully the engine was not damaged when the pump broke. If it was you may need a complete engine rebuild, MAYBE.

Low oil pressure message

If your engine is running, and you live in an area that experiences extremely cold temperatures, get an oil change with a new filter and use a low weight 5W20 motor oil. If this does not fix your problem, then there are two other possible causes: your oil pressure sensor is going bad, or your oil pump is going bad. Of course, an oil pressure sensor is cheap and easy to place. Let that be your next step.
