SOURCE: Engine light went on. Took car to mechanic who removed the light. Wrote on card ECM 250A, light came on next day. What does this code mean?

This error code is a result of the engine fuel management system air fuel ratio has adjusted the fuel air trim to the high limit. This is most likely an O2 sensor or less likely a lambda sensor or possible a fuel supply problem.

Each of these components an be checked by a qualified service center. The system has expensive components so I suggest assuring the diagnostics before starting to swap in parts. After market parts are available, however my experience has concluded factory parts from the dealer is the most reliable repair.

Caution is suggested. Even though the car may have no drive ablity problems, a condition can occur that will damage the caltalitic convertor if the fuel air mix is to rich causing the cat to overheat!!

Hope this helps?

SOURCE: Engine light went on. Mechnic removed the light and wrote ECM 250A on card. Light went on next day. What does this code mean?

Fault code P250A means "Engine Oil Level Sensor Circuit". So apparently your car (make, model, year?) has a sensor for the oil level, and the circuit sending that information to the ECM has some problems. Broken wire? Bad connector? Bad sensor?

Engine management light flashing. Mechanic s computer - no fault code detected. Now light off for few days and has come back on. Any ideas

Based on that, anyone who tells you they know what the problem is would just be 100% guessing.

2. The mechanics scan tool may not have picked up a code but that does not mean there is no fault code generated ready to be pulled up with the correct equipment. There are also some manufacturer specific codes for various models that many generic scan tools will not necessarily read.

3. I would take it to a dealer service center and have the fault code or codes pulled up and diagnosed as there will be something if the warning light is back on. Whatever fault codes are being generated, their equipment will pick it up.

I have a 2007 GMC Envoy, the engine light has been on for a while now, took it to the dealer and a code P0506, they reset the light, took my $100 and said nothing is wrong, three days later, the engine...

Hi there, P0506 IS usally a dirty throttle body. In order to clean properly, with the battery disconnected, they need to be taken off and cleaned front and back til' they are shiny. Sticking a rag soaked with solvent in there while it's still attached isn't going to cut it, i've seen many mechanics do it this way. When they do this, they very often DO NOT unhook the battery which you NEED to do for about an hour while cleaning.. Otherwise, the computer won't relearn the clean throttle body, and you'll have your light on again. It's very easy and cheap to do it yourself. Let me know if you'd like instructions on how to do it.

Up to this point in time, mechanic 1 has only done some maintenance work on the car. Things that would be done from time to time to maintain the car.
Since you have lost trust in this mechanic, I would go to a different place and have them diagnose the codes. If the second place gives you the same recommendation you can decide what to do.
You can tell the second place you are getting a second opinion, or not.

What does fault code ECM - 250A long term - fuel trim:upper limit on 2004 volvo S40 mean

Sound like a problem with the MAF sensor, try replace.

Pulled codes for ECM-250A long term fuel trim upper limit, inspected and found air mass sensor failing internally, should show 4 f/s at idle and is showing 2.98 f/s at idle. Recommend replacing with new.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Check engine read out says it's the cat converter.....no longer warranteed @ 89K miles......car is running well......mechanic says there are 2 cat converters on this car - dealer says no, only one -...

Go to a qualified exhaust shop, and have them look at the problem. It isn't hard for them to diagnose problems with catalytic converters. If they tell you the cats are fine, then they are fine. However they will tell you what is the problem. Personally I wouldn't trust either the mechanic or the dealer.

My car was turning a corner nad my car died, the check enging light came on, does this mean my car needs anew engine?

Does not mean you need a new engine, it mean's the the ECM, the car's engine management system has detected a issue that caused your engine to stop running. Have the car scanned for the DTC code which would indicate the issue that needs to be addressed to have the engine run 100% again. It could be as simple as a dirty fuel filter that needs to be replaced. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Could be cam sensor, crank sensor, PCM going bad. On these newer vehicles with all the electronics it is hard to pinpoint what it is till the check engine light does come on for it. I would suspect one of the 3 going bad though.
