SOURCE: Bearing spun should i just get the next size up , the crank feals smooth. Th orignal size was sloppy

if it spun you will probably have to take the crank and have it machined or it will spin again

what you are seeing are under sizes for bearings available for when the crankshaft is ground
you have to measure the journals with a micrometer to see it it is standard size or has been ground
or if you are just putting new bearings in during a quick engine rebuild then the bearing size will be stamped on the back of the shell
it will be either std or the .010" etc and you need the bearings with that size on them
anything else but std on a std crank journal will jam the shaft up--or .010" means that the crank has been ground .010" and needs bearings of that size
conversely if you put std shells on a .030" ground shaft , the bearings will flog out and oil pressure will be low to non existant

Is the shaft a perfect shape, if a bit out, it will fail straight away as the hardened coating is now missing. Use Engineers Blue and check the shaft.

No the oil clearance is correct for BOTH bearings @ .022 -.046 mm to try to get a true clearance measurement use a micrometer and measure in 4 places 90 degrees part this will check for out of round journal and compare to a factory journal size. there may be a .001 thousand or .002 thousand undersize bearing insert that will bring oil clearance in to specs. but most connecting rods get black from a spun bearing and they need to stay round so a inside micrometer is used to check that 10 times out 10 the connecting rod is replaced.

Connected new rod bearings, and crank wont turn. ???

check that you kept the caps and rods as units as any one cap will not fit any other rod. The same goes for the main bearings. Have you got the correct size bearings for the crank shaft. Have you placed the rods in the cylinder correctly. have you placed the bearing slippers in the cap and rod correctly

They are replaceable. Common reasons for replacement include noise and low oil pressure. Replacement bearings come in standard as well as various undersizes, so rule number one is to make sure the bearing size matches the crank journals.

What is the difference between standard size main bearing and oversize main bearing. Which is best for the 5.4L V8 engine

thats a good un? ok standard bearings are a standard size,,,over size bearings are smaller in the center to make up for the metal that has been removed from when the bearing was re-fased
ie: ground down to smooth it off so its flat again,,,,,now you can fit oversized bearings on a standerd bearing becouse they would be far to tight and would lock the bearing up,,,,so you need to re-grind the bearing serfice or fit standerd bearings back in,,,only if the shaft is a good one?

Re-grinded crank fitted and developed initial problem

While tough to say from this vantage point it would appear the wrong size bearings may have been used. Did your mechanic use plasti-gae to confirm what size bearing were needed? A newly reground crank with proper bearings and lube should be able to have been rotated.

Motor wont crank

It has happened to me that, when ordering parts, i was given .025 oversized bearings after ordering standards. take it back apart, and double check the bearing marks. if they are what you ordered, use some micrometers or plastigage, and get the correct set.
