Question about 2006 Hyundai Accent 1.6
The ignition system in the 2006 1.6 liter is a multi coil pack consisting of 4 coil packs, 1 on top of each spark plug boot, as opposed to the 2003,having 2 coils, 1 of which runs the spark to 2 spark plug wires, and the other coil runs the other 2. This appears to be the only difference between these engines, and i have already pulled the locked up 2006 engine out, and purchased a rebuilt 2003 1.6. I stopped the transplant when i saw the differences. I cant get any money back from the used motor from the seller and really need to get this car going as cheaply as possible. ANY help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bill 4807979197 cell Anytime

OK. just follow the number on the ignition coils.
And the number on the cylinders are.
The FIREWALL side are 1,3,5, Starting from the belts location.
The RADIATOR side are 2,4,6, Starting from the belts location.
The coil with number 1 go to cylinder 1. as the same way the rest of the coils and cylinders.
OK... I hope this solve your question .
THank you for use fixya.

I have seen coil packs go bad on several Hyundai Accents, the coils will do exactly what they are supposed to (hence your check with an ohm meter), however, the coils short through the outer casing. Try running the car when it is dark out and spraying the coil packs with water. Listen for clicking and watch for arching from the coils to any metal around them. Look for abnormal detonation marks in the outer casing. My guess is you just need a set of new coils. If the Problem is worse in the rain then you have found your problem. Remember, If your car has been misfiring (as noted by the engine codes you listed), the EGR valve can become clogged and damage can be done to your catalytic converter as unburned fuel detonates inside it (keep an eye out for O2 codes in the future). Also, your new plugs can become fouled, be sure they are clean once you fix the problem. Checking your plugs can also be a useful indication of which cylinder is misbehaving.

Well I went ahead and took a go at changing the coils, plugs and wires yesterday. It literally took maybe 15 minutes and my hands didn't even get dirty. This is something that the auto place wanted to charge me 650 to do. I spent 200 on parts. I didn't realize the coils were the things sitting on top of the spark plugs. I think my 4 year old could've done it. All I had to do was unbolt the coils detach the wires and then replace. It was too simple.

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1
Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.
