My 2000 Nissan xterra started bucking, so I replaced the distributor, cap, wires and plugs, now it only bucks after 55mph.

if its the whole car doing it not just the motor check the tires. if tires are out of balance or warped then typical they will buck or jump from 50-60 maybe 65 mph

How to change a harmonic balance

Hello....Well first of all...most of the time...To do this will need special tools...There is a center bolt that connects the balancer to the crank shaft...It's driven in really tight so most likely..a pneumatic wrench or a good breaker bar will need to be used to remove it...once you remove the center bolt...there is a tool called a puller that is used to walk the balancer off the crank shaft...You can either rent or buy this some cases a gear puller will work...or a tool called a harmonic balancer puller can be has either 2 or 3 hooks to clamp onto the harmonic balancer and a bolt in the center that you tighten with a you do,,,the balancer slowly inches forward until it is off the to get the new balancer on..there is a tool called a Press which is a bolt that is specially designed to do the opposite of the place the new balancer on the crankshaft..install the press as you would the center bolt...and tighten it with a wrench and it will slowly walk the balancer onto the crank shaft...Then you remove the press and install the center bolt..preferrably with a torque wrench...Now...after reading all this...are you sure you want to do this honest mecanic will most likely do this job for $150 bucks....Parts and labor....If you do this yourself..let me know how it goes....I hope this was helpful....PEACE...

never heard of check and balance a head. I would ask him what he's trying to fix. What were your symptoms/reasons for pulling the intake manifold?

2005 dodge dakota driveshaft vibrations, only has 58,000 miles. Dealer says needs driveshaft assembly and is not warranty under 7 year/ 70,000 miles warranty.

You most likely need a 15 dollar ujoint. The dealer will sell you the whole unit to make a better return. Even so a driveshaft can be balanced for about $100 bucks if it were out of balance but if you did not loose a weight or bend it then it shoulds be just fine. Go to an independant shop. You will be treated better and only the parts needed will be sold to you.

Poss. a seperated tire, or if you have driven in any mud recently it could be packed on the rim, putting it out of balance

Vibrates in overdrive speed up or slow down it quits

if your vehicle only vibrates at speeds above a certain point the most likely cause of the issue is a tire balance issue. just make sure it doesn't matter if you accelerating or decelerating the vehicle just vibrates after a certain speed, and if this is the case take it to a tire shop and have them check the balance. shouldn't cost more than like 40 bucks.

My 1996 dodge neon's crank balancer will not come off. i need to take this off to get the timing belt off. to fix a blown headgagsket.

Take everything in front of it off.  Use a long breaker bar and socket, 1/2" drive, 3/4" if you have one.  Put the socket on the nut and the bar across to a piece of the frame.  BUMP the starter.  DO NOT CRANK IT.  This will break the nut loose.

Harmonic balancer

If the car doesn't shake when you are idling, then I its probably something else. Look at all your pullies and check and see if one of them may just need to be tighten.
