i think you need to clarify this moreso the boost on the vehicle and what you seem to be talking about is the turbo not a solenoid

2000 a4tdi turbo boost problem seems to goto into limp mode at around 60mph fine upto then had it on diagnosis comes up boost problem?


In your case the turbocharger is responsible for engine losing power.
The car goes in "limp home" mode!!!
After scan the EDC-15P engine control unit with a VAS, VAG or KTS -BOSCH diagnosis tool you will find this: Fault code: P1557-Turbo Boost pressure control exceeded
1. Engine stopped and ignition switch off. Check all pneumatic connections and hoses between turbocharger actuator = pressure unit for boost-pressure control, boost-pressure control solenoid valve, vacuum reservoir, EGR control solenoid valve, intake-manifold flap solenoid valve, EGR valve with throttle - part of intake manifold. Also the vacuum connection between tandem pump and brake booster. If you find something wrong replace parts. If not go to step 2.
2. Extract the hose of the turbocharger actuator = pressure unit for boost-pressure control part of turbocharger. Instead of the original hose you must place another 1 meter long hose with the same inside diameter, and then you check to inspire yourself the air from the other one extremity of this hose. The mechanical connecting rod of the turbocharger actuator must have a smooth and whole motion. If you can do that with your mouth, then you must replace the boost-pressure control solenoid valve. If you can not reach this with your mouth, then you go to step 3.
3. This is the most difficult work. The problem is that the soot particles deposits inside the turbocharger plugging the variable nozzle geometry mechanism = adjustable vanes of the turbine. If the turbocharger actuator is not able to adjust the turbine vanes the charge air pressure increase too much and ECU (engine control unit) go in "limp mode" = engine protection software. As a result the "limp home" mode engine still running until you turn the engine off (ignition switch off) and back on when the "limp mode" is deactivated, but the fault still remain in ECU memory!
4. You must be able to extract the turbo from the engine and then to disassemble the turbocharger, clean inside adjustable vanes mechanism and refit all.

Hi when i push the car it go's in to limp mode, i had it checked yesterday and the codes 16618/P0234 boost pressure regulation limit exceeded. cover boost condition came up do i need a new turbo ? please...

The boost-pressure control solenoid valve is placed in front right side of the cylinder block. Follow the rubber vacuum pipe direction, going from the turbocharger actuator toward the boost-pressure control solenoid valve.

Instead of the original hose you must place another 1 meter long hose with the same inside diameter, and then you check to inspire yourself the air from the other one extremity of this hose. If you can not reach this with your mouth, then you go to step 3.

I have top of the 2004 impala indy ss.transmission fluid and filter change 6mnths ago at 62000 miles now have 67k.tranny is slipping sometimes any easy fixes


Soft shifting, gradual performance degradation: Poor line pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged EPC filter screen, failing EPC solenoid, or worst case: leaky seals throughout. Seal restorer may fix last problem. Also try a transmission flush with BG brand products (Firestone stocks it).
Chances are the boost valve may be leaking or a bad EPC valve. (EPC Electronic Pressure Control valve). Try not to drive the transmission to hard as to ensure you do not do any further damage which would cause in the transmission rebuilt.
Replacing the boost valve or EPC valve is easy once the transmission pan is dropped. Put a line pressure gauge (visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve.

4. You must be able to extract the turbo from the engine and then to disassemble the turbocharger, clean inside and refit all.
It is some work to do here, but after that you will be full satisfied! NO MORE "LIMP MODE"!!!

P1557- Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation Possible Symptoms You May have overboosted I would chek out the EGR make sure it is open.
  • Reduced power output
  • Limp mode
Possible Causes
  • Boost Pressure too High
  • Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking
  • Charger Pressure Control defective
    • VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck
  • Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective
Possible Solutions
  • Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
  • Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
  • Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control
