Question about 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Open Question

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. I cannot get the 4WD ESOF to engage.

This happened suddenly. Trying to somehow diagnose what the issue(s) could be. Drives perfect in 2WD. No clunking noise when shifting to 4WD - nothing at all (no light comes on either)

SOURCE: where is the resistor in a 2001 ford explorer

You have to remove your glove box and it is behind there. Here is a picture of where it is. This particular picture is from a 4 X 4 so if you don't have that it won't have the 4X4 part. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for using FixYa!5877c26.jpg

SOURCE: where is the fuel filter location on a 2001 ford

It is inside the left frame rail below the drivers door, you need a special tool to release the filter from the line. filter just snaps into its metal holder. Good luck and you can get the fuel line quick release tool at most Auto Parts store.

I have lost my only key to my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac..can I start it somehow without a key and how do I get a replacement key

Dealer OR Locksmith

Dealer you need your VIN number

Locksmith may just cut a key for your ignition

IS it a coded ignition ? then you definatly need a dealer
OR prokey company But they are limited to only certian model and year vehicles

The starter will spin the engine but the engine will not fire. this is happening to a 2001 ford explorer sport trac. the spark plugs are getting fire and when i tried to use starter fluid nothing happened

I hope you didnt spray starting fluid through the mass air meter. If you did, this will cause a very expensive repair. There is a "Hot" wire in there that will be damaged. Please tell me what engine you have, either a 4.0L SOHC or a 4.0 OHV. The issues could be different, depending on the engine. Both need fuel, spark, and compression to fire with the fuel, and ignition timing and the fuel timing is critical.
