Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The reverse lights on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly went out. The fuses and bulbs are okay, but what about the transmission switch? Maybe something else is causing it? Thanks for any help!

2004 WJ and as always wires and connections can fail.

the chapter on rear lighting covers this in 8w
page 8w-51-7
shows the backup relay.
see that?
jb fuse F20, Jb is cab fuse. 10amps.
that be first, measure it with an Ohmeter (DMM set to resistance RX1) 0 ohms is good, more bad.
on this car the shifter controls the relay, not the BCM or TCM or PCM.
the shifter, does
page 8w-31-15
seen below, the red arrow drives said relay
the book is free on line, posted by me 300 times, WJ jeep
or go to mitchells and read, at any time.... you want.
the assy below runs off 2 other fuses.
JB f12 and f21
did you scan the PCM first. to see if there are error from the below.
The below uses the PCI bus network , so.... we scan it first.
eg; lost comm's to shifter assy. DTC error.

or scan it first.
i cant see what your SA is doing so... can not wax too smart.
this is SA.

as is a scan tool.
other wise, just wild guessing , happens.

No fuse for them, bulbs are OK. Most likely the switch. Some times the wire that goes to both.

Are the back up (reverse lights) in series---where if one bulb is out neither side works---on a jeep cherokee?

no, they are 12 volt bulbs and require parallel wiring. If you have a manual transmission, check the reverse light switch on the transmission for continuity with the transmission in reverse. If you have an automatic, the reverse switch is integrated into the transmission range switch at the shift cable attach point. In either case, the wires at the switch are yellow/dark green stripe and brown/light green stripe.

Please forgive me as i am from the UK, and don't really know the layout of American vehicles, But maybe it could be the reversing light switch which could be on the transmission box somewhere, very vague i know sorry, just an idea mate not solution.

Back up lights and license plate light doesn't work.

Reverse lights are activated by a small switch on the transmission. Usually located on the passenger side of the vehicle with a small rubber cap over the switch, Your plate light bulbs are probably in need of replacement, and have nothing to do with the reverse lights.

Turn signals on my 2004 jeep don't work what to

If one of your bulbs has blown you will get a faster relay click when you activate the indicators. It sounds as though the relay itself could be sticking / broken.

Of course it could just be a blown fuse, I would check that first before changing relays

Grand cherokee jerking movement

I have a 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee, I was driving along the freeway maybe doing about 60mph when my jeep suddenly jerked, when it did this my emissions light came on. I pulled over in a parking lot checked all my fluids oil, transmission fluid, everything seemed okay, as I was getting back on the freeway I watched the R PMs that was fine and my emission light went off. After driving for about 5 minutes it did it again and my emissions light came back on, I did notice this time it seemed to be in the rear where this Jerking/ Bucking came from can anyone help??? PLEASE
