2003 jetta gls rumble in the front end

sounds like a gearbox bearing ,,,this sounds like a growling noise usually when accelerating although as the problem gets worse it can happen constantly ,,, wheel bearings can growl too but will give a constant noise regardless of acceleration ,,, you need to see to this quickly as the more you drive you will cause more damage and cost to you ,,,,bearings will fix it in the early stages but if more damage is done you could have to pay for new gears and shafts which is expensive

I believe i have an axle problem every time i put it in gear and lose all power theres hard banging noise ect.

Your cougar is a front wheel drive and the axles are called cv joints. Under your car going to each front wheel is a metal rod with a rubber boot at each end. Under each boot is the joint that allows the wheel to move up and down side to side while putting power to the tire. If your boots get torn, water and dirt destroy these cv joints. You can jack up the front of the car and with the motor off and trans in neutral, turn the front tires to see where the damage is at. Replacing the joints on fords takes special tools.

I have a 98 chevy 1500 series that is making a rubbing sound in the front driver side, also you can feel it **** when you are driving. could it be a wheel bearing and if so how much does this usually cost...

is it a four or two wheel drive? It is my understanding that the C designates two wheel drive and that the K designates 4 wheel drive? If it is a two wheel drive it will narrow the problems down a fair bit, if it is 4 wheel drive constant then then there a couple of things i would check first. Secondly is the rubbing noise sound like a metalic grind?, a rubbery sound or a loud fast clicking noise?

2002 merc cougar 2.5 liter has loud whistling

Sounds like a vacuume leak, use some carb cleaner in a spray can and gently spray the engine. When you find the leak the engine will stumble, check in that area for the leak.

Front end noise when turning. almost sounds like

There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap: Check:
CV joints, if a clicking sound brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.

Noise from near side front wheel area, when turning. can i fix it myself.

If it's a clicking noise it's probably the axle. You might also have a pebble in your brakes or your weather guard is rubbing on your rotor. Depends on what kind of noise you have. Could also be a wheel bearing if it's a rumbling noise or deep rubbing noise. Jack it up and wiggle the wheel while looking for play or something out of the ordinary.

2000 Cougar with rumbling noise.

There are several places to look. If it is a lower pitch vibration, look into front wheel bearings and rear axle bearings. A bad u-joint will produce a higher pitched vibration and may lessen as you lift the throttle. They also will give a hi-low squeak when backing up.
