Question about Ford Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I own a 2002 Ford Escape, 3.0L, 6 cyl. During a recent flood, the bcm got wet and I want to replace. I'm not sure how to do so, what all needs to be done or where to find one. Can anyone assist me?

You can get another one used at the wrecking yard or just let yours dry out and get it checked out, or buy a rebuilt one from the autoparts

How can I get it checked out? And would it have to be programmed/reprogrammed?

ask your autoparts store where they send the cores to and if they could do it for you and if not then the best thing to do is to buy the rebuilt one or just get one from the pick-n-pull junkyard

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP):
4 CYL - located on the front of the engine, near the flywheel end of the block. remove exhaust manifold, disconnect electrical connector, remove bolt. installation is reverse of removal, no gasket req'd. torque to 62 inch-pounds
6 CYL - located next to crankshaft pulley - remove right wheel, remove lower right splashshield. disconnect electrical connector, remove bolt. installation is reverse of removal, no gasket req'd. torque to 89 inch-pounds

No start

I'll give you a list of a few things that could be causing your problem. However, I think it's most likely a bad ignition module. I looked this up on the web and I see a lot of ignition module problems for the 2002 Escape. I checked the Ford recall list but there was no recall issued for what looks to be a very common problem with the ignition module.

Here are some other things that could be causing your problem.
1. Bad ignition coil
2. Clogged fuel filter
3. Clogged air filter
4. Clogged fuel injectors
5. Bad spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and /or rotor.

REPAIR MANUAL NEEDED!!!!

The 2002, 2003 and 2004 Mazda MPV's all use the same Ford 6 cyl. 3.0 duratec engine. The Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute of those years use the same engine. Therefore if you need an inexpensive engine repair manuel for your 2002 MPV, get the Haynes ($20.00) 2001-2007 Escape/Tribute manuel. Mazda sells the a MPV shop manuel for $180.00. I also own a 2002 Mazda MPV LX. 75k miles.
