There is no relief valve on the oil pump.
The valve is on a housing near the oil filter
Normal pressure with HOT oil is 15 to 20 PSI at tick over and around 60 PSI when the engine is reved up
Note oil pressure can be as high as 90 psi with engine oil cold and engine reved up

SOURCE: Location of Oil Pressure Sensor and Oil Pressure Relieve Valve

the oil pressure switch is on pssenger side, lower engine area, beside oil filter, mounted in engine block. The pressure relief valve is in the oil pump, in which case, you have to drop the oil pan,and take off the oil pump.

SOURCE: High oil pressure and oil leak around oil filter seal.

It sounds like the check valve in the oil pump either has some trash in it or has gone bad. If it's a two wheel drive I don't remember the oil pan being that hard to get off. You can then drop the pickup and oil pump and soak them overnight in some parts cleaner. That may solve the problem, if there's trash in it. But if you're going to go through that much trouble, an oil pump shouldn't be that much I'd just replace it. So the problem doesn't come back. Good luck.

Had the pressure bypass valve malfunction on my 2.5 jeep put new oil pump in and with 45lbs. Oil pressure motor still sounds dry of oil, what gives?

it's not priming.
that grease trick helps.
is this some china pump off fleabay or a real jeep pump..???
did you do the below.:
1: the grease sure. and then prime the filter and the gallery behind the
filter.
2: With fuel and spark defeated, and spark plugs removed then with pressure gauge attached to sender port, did you crank it to get max pressure (my guess is this is the step you are posting on.)
i never start any engine, (after majors) unless i get #2 to work first the number 3, which is top end oil checks.

the pump is no priming.
In pro shops they make up a priming tool. so new engines are never
started, 1st time dry, ever.
one way is just a tank full of oil and shop air, and 2 valve.

maybe the new pumps relieve valve is stuck open, fully.
i rebuild my own classic engines, after all that work !!! i never
ever, skip these steps.
and for 100% sure, good pressure, and top end oiling on any major work.

How to take off a fuel pressure regulator on a 2000 ford excursion

bleed off pressure by disconnecting wiring from inertia switch or pull fuse for the pump, start engine till it stalls. pressure will be zero.
pressure regulator is on fuel rail. They seldom go. If you are losing pressure overnight or low pressure ( below 40 psi), it is likely the check valve in the fuel pump in the tank.

this is a tough one but if the oil filters been replaced..since the pomp has a spring in it that controls oil pressure.., i have only one thought that comes to mind because something similar has happened to me ..on an oil filter there is a rubber seal once in a while when you change the oil filter the seal sticks to the motor block and when the next new filter goes on its double sealed ..when this happened to me a week went by and when i got on the fwy i seen cloud of smoke and oil was just everywhere...check and make sure that it hasent happened in your case

Ticking that increases with rpms. oil is full. oil pressure guage is about 120 at idle as you drive it goes upto just over 275. could this be spring in oil pump? and if so will changing the oil change it ....

I was almost alarmed at the 120 to 275. It's metric, correct. Anyway. This ticking sound is a valve tap most likely. As the engine wears over the years the hydraulic lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, valves, etc, wear. The only way to stop it from getting worse is to rebuild the top end of the engine. That would mean pulling it down to the heads and refurbishing everything up. <-not necessary. Switch to a high mileage oil like castrol GTX with a high mileage oil additive such as slick 50. this will not correct the problem but it will help to slow it down. Get a cylinder compression test done so that you can determine what to measure future compression tests to. This will help you predict. when the car will die. Please rate this high if it helped you.

Honda Civic Coupe. Year 2000 1.6. How can I depressurize the fuel system easily to change the fuel filter situated in the engine compartment.

Hi,

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the fuel system pressure release step. Injury and other damage can result!
Safety Step! Relieving Fuel System Pressure
· allow engine to cool
· relieve fuel system pressure
· put on your eye protection
Before you begin the job of replacing your fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do this before you attempt to change the fuel filter.
To release the pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse, find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your fuel filter.
Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter.
If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!

Best regards.

2005 Ford F-250 6.0 PSD No Start

Seems like a low injector control pressure situation. You may see plenty of oil pressure on the gauge but the high pressure oil that opens the injectors is probably passing through a blown STC fitting at the back of the high pressure pump or something of that nature. Check for smoke out the tail pipe, if there's smoke, I could be wrong. If you checked the glow plugs (make sure you have 12 comming and going through the relay, just because it clicks does not mean it's working) than you more than likely have compression, the last thing you need is fuel. To get fuel you need high pressure oil. Your truck should have an ICP sensor on the right valve cover toward the front. You can back probe or make a breakout harness to pins... ok I don't know what two pins but there is only three. Anyway backprobe the sensor and see if you have more than .82V while cranking. If you do not, go to the IPR (injection pressure regulator) which is behind and below the turbo. It is a round solenoid valve sticking out of the high pressure oil pump. This valve will have the connector pointing down and toward the back of the motor in it's "weather protecting" position. You can rotate this valve by hand so the connector is easier to get to but don't force it and break it. You will then need to apply 12V and a ground to this valve. Do not supply the voltage for more than 120 seconds though or you could burn the valve up. with 12V to the valve see if it will start. If it will you may have a power supply problem to the valve. If none of this helps let me know, the rest of the troubleshooting is pretty involved.

I need to change fuel filter for 1992 f150 [relay diagram]

To relieve the pressure, find on the fuel rail on the intake a schroeder valve, looks like a larger version of a tire valve, possibly with a cap. Remove cap, push center pin on valve to relieve pressure. Caution as high pressure fuel will come out, I hold a rag over it while I do it.
