If I hold battery cables together will it reset my ecm does car have to be running

knowing the year and make would help but it will still work, remove the cables and let stand for approx 5 mins. then clean the battery and the cables then reinstall. the car that you are working on depends on how the car will relearn the parameters as you drive, some take longer and some not so long. that is all that you have to do,good luck, dave

Does the Kia Sorento 2006 needs a Fuse or something to reset Cruise Control? Thanks Dave

Not really. It is controlled by the ECM. If that fuse blew, you would have lost many other things, like engine not starting.

I have a 1995 oldsmobile 88 and the computer needs to be reset.

Hi Dave.

You can perform a reset of main control module (ECM) disconnecting the battery terminals for a couple of minutes. That will reset the check engine light until the problem occurs again. Make sure that you have the stereo anti theft code if needed.

The proper way to reset the DTC codes is using an OBDII scanner. The job can be done at the dealer place or at any authorized garage for a small fee (half hour labor). In US the scan and reset can be done for free at Autozone. If possible go to the nearest Autozone, ask to do a code scanning take note of codes and ask to reset the ECM.

Finally, you can reset the codes at home using a scanner tool like this:OBDII Scanner - U480.

How do I reset the computer on my 2004 Astro Van? The mechanic says it has to be reset to see if the error code comes up again, and then take it to him, but he has no time for me to go to have it reset...

Hi Dave.

The proper way to reset the DTC is using an OBDII scanner. Go to the nearest Autozone, ask to do a code scanning and to reset codes.

You can also reset the codes at home but you will need a scanner like this:OBDII Scanner - U480.

Here an example showing how to use a scanner tool to reset the codes.

You can also try disconnecting the battery. That will reset the engine check light until the problem occurs again. It may not clear stored diagnostic codes. Make sure that you have the stereo anti theft code if needed.

I have a 2002 toyota camry had to change the battery, and the car will not idle, have driven it for about an hour

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. This will flash the ECU and reset the cars values. It will take 1-200KM's for the ecu to read all the values and settle and the car to return to normal

Doorlocks keep locking even when out of the

Dave, it would appear that at one point one of the manual locks were forced either to unlock or lock and has now repositioned the nuetral point at a different location on the locking rod, hence, sending false readings to the control unit to either unlock or lock, I would try this, close all doors and manually lock them see which lock lever look unlike the rest in that position, this will be the culprit and have to be reset on the rod behind the door trim panel. This advice is as best as I can give without manually seeing the car. Drive safely
