Open the door and look at the 2 jaws that go around the strike. then pull the door handle as if you were opening it from the outside and manually retract the jaws back to the open position. this is a common thing that happens. after that it should be ok. lube it with wd40 afterwards.

Passenger door catch is stuck in lock position

I am not sure whether your door is stuck locked and you can't get it open, or it is tripped closed and you can't close the door.

This may help:

Drivers side sliding door won't close

check mechanism on working doors. In my car if I move the catch on the door(click it like in closed position)like it was closed, then when I open the handle it releases open;this shows me closing/opening. Spray penetrating fluid on the metal/mechanism,possibly rusty and prevents smooth actions. Hope this helps.

Door latch wont latch and keep door shut

Sometimes these get stuck in the closed position...try pulling up on the inside door release before trying to close again...this re-aligns the catch to work properly...if needed then compare the door latch to the same door on the other side to adjust to open/close as needed...Hope this helps.

Driver side door wont close. latch in locked position.

You might try to operate the door handle, and using a screwdriver into the latch, try to release the catch.

The locking mechanism on the rear passenger door isnt working. The door will close but the metal catch will not lock. How do i repair?

I have seen some times the latch assemblys get rusty or dirty and the inside or outside door handles are pulled and the latch assembly siezes in the open position not allowing the door to latch closed..but this may not be the case .. check to see also if the child lock switch position is not stuck in the halfway position, also check if the latch has not flipped to the close position before the door was closed thus jamming the striker latch..this can be fixed by pulling the catch out while opening the door handle..hope this helps good luck...

My windstar vans side door on the driver side is stuck in teh lock position. the door is not shut all the way but I can't unlock it. I've tried to pull the lock up but it won't budge. please help

Try to close the door fully by pushing it forward (may require several hands pushing at once) which may reset the lock and latch. If it closes, but still doesn't release the lock, the interior panel must be removed to access the lock and latch directly.

Sliding door problem

You probably have a burnt out door lock soleniod, it's part of the latch, stuck in the locked position, you have to pry the latch from the inside, to release the catch, just replace the latch when done. GOOD LUCK, RDJRP

I have a 1998 BMW 528 I. The drivers side door latch will not catch. So door will not close or lock

Wit the door open, using a srewdriver, use it to throw the catch, then see if the latch locks into position. if it doesn't then a new catch will be required as the locking latch spring inside the latch would have broken
