When accelerating the yellow triangle appears on the dash board? And when I step on the brakes it feels spongy and makes a grinding sound. The brakes are semi-new.


Semi-new??? If the pads are good and the rotors are good then I would check the caliper and while down there check the bearings as well. Spongy is usually not properly bled brake lines. Grinding is metal on metal in the caliper with pads ground down. The other main reason for grinding is a bad bearing. If this happens when you are turning one way or the other then it is the bearing.

Need to know crankshaft main bearings and rod bearings torque specks.


2 Different size engines for that year. If you have the 2.2 the main bearing caps are 70 ft/lbs (final torque) & the rod bearing caps are 38 ft/lbs (final torque). If you have the 4.3, the main bearing caps are 77 ft/lbs (final torque) & the rod bearing caps are 45 ft/lbs (final torque). I hope this helps and good luck.

Need to do an engine overhaul. Do I need to replace all big end and mains engine bearings? If so what is the total cost for these bearings?dyendys@yahoo.com


For the crank and bearing set between $150.00 And$300.00 depending on the engine size. If your doing a complete over haul, look at spending $800.00 to $1000.00 This would be all the gaskets and seals, having the head/s checked and boring the block. this will not include any sensors or electrical components.

What is the difference between standard size main bearing and oversize main bearing. Which is best for the 5.4L V8 engine


thats a good un? ok standard bearings are a standard size,,,over size bearings are smaller in the center to make up for the metal that has been removed from when the bearing was re-fased
ie: ground down to smooth it off so its flat again,,,,,now you can fit oversized bearings on a standerd bearing becouse they would be far to tight and would lock the bearing up,,,,so you need to re-grind the bearing serfice or fit standerd bearings back in,,,only if the shaft is a good one?

85 subaru gl sounds like a diesel engine.


Take it another mechanic and see how much they would charge you to replace the Main Crank Shaft and rod bearing for you. It should take about 3 hours to do if not 4 hours, you can get to the bearings by just dropping the oil pan to get to the crank shaft and they should be able to replace the bearing from there. There will still be other worn parts like the pistons and valves, so have them do a compression test to see if all the cylinders are with in each other for compression and that would be a major deciding factor to just having the bottom end of the engine rebuilt. This is old school way of repairing the bottom end of an engine so find a good old school mechanic Good luck and keep me posted
