Question about Cars & Trucks

How to get the power flowing in our Bobcat.

Have a 96' Bobcat with a fully charged battery. It had started, I got off, got back on and the manual lock wouldn't release. Finally realized I had no lights on the BICS and BOSS. Figured it was a fuse, checked, wiggled..... lights came on. Loaded Bobcat on the trailer. When we arrived same problem no lights but no wigggling or changing of fuses would bring them on.

SOURCE: Changed my battery.

This may sound silly but place the actual key in the drivers door and cycle locked and unlock this should reset the security system.

SOURCE: 2005 Subaru Legacy electrical repair question?

The #3 fuse does service both windows and door locks and #2 services a control module that affects door locks. Inspect them closely since the fuse element can crack when blowing and this is much harder to see. Pull a least #3 and plug it back in in case the contact blades have stopped comunicating with the mating connector.

To troubleshoot this effectively, you really need a cheap multimeter and the Haynes service manual for your car, #89101.
The manual has very good electrical diagrams in section 12 so you can logically trace the problem. They are available at most every auto parts chain store and cost ~ $20-25 US.

SOURCE: no power to anything - how do I reset anti-theft

no... no power to anything means like the headlights are inop and such

in that case its a battery or battery cable issue

assuming you have headlights and power to accessories and the vehicle still will not start AND the theft light is flashing then YES your anti-theft system is trying to keep the car from what it thinks is a theft issue

simply pressing the unlock button on your remotes will resolve this

assuming you do not have the remotes then you will need the anti-theft computers reprogrammed at a dealer or good garage

keep us posted

Have a load test done on the batter to check for failing cells. For diesels to start any thing less than a fully charged battery good battery is a waste of time as the engine needs fast RPM to heat the air to ignite the fuel and slow rpm's just doesn't cut it.

IS BATTERY FULLY CHARGED SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS. AND BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING. REASON I SAY BATTERY SHOULD BE FULLY CHARGED THE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED BATTERY POWER ENERGIZED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID SO YOU CAN GET TRANSMISSION INTO PARK OR NEUTRAL.THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID COULD BE FAULTY.

Audi 96 a4 open and closes on it own

do you use keys or remote to lock it ??
do this anyway.. lock car with key and hold key over for 30secs.the windows may go down, then release and wait 30 secs ,then lock car with remote holding button down for 30 secs, this resets the central locking./alarm system.also check battery is fully charged as this will have an effect on all the above

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee alarm keeps randomly going off.

this happened to me recently with my 96 grand cherokee. the battery got drained by the alarm going off randomly at night. i pulled the fuse for the horn so at least my neighbors would only be bothered by flashing lights. then i couldn't jump the car because the alarm was still going off. i hooked my car to jump it to another car, and then i had to deactivate the alarm first by putting my key in the driver side door and unlocking the car. then i left it hooked to another car and still getting power but didn't jump it for at least 5 minutes in case the computer needed to reset. then it jumped fine. from what i've read online, this is a common problem that can be avoided if you stop using the power locks and always manually lock and unlock the doors with your key. its a little annoying, but apparently the power locks are connected to the alarm issue. hope the same works for you.

Lady with a 1999 4Runner cannot start car after...

Recharge the battery. Or buy a new one. But make sure you have a fully charged battery. What happened was that the battery drained because it probably needs replacement. When the battery drained too low. The ECU deprogramed itself. When installing a new or fully charged battery. Start the car. You may have to remove the negative cable a few times then restart it for the CPU to go into the default settings.
