It could be a fuse. The fuse panel is located by the lower instrument panel just to the left of the steering column. There should be a diagram there telling you which fuse is to what as well. You may also want to check in the panel that is next to your battery. It usually has a cover on it that has a diagram as well

I've been thru this mess... Replace the ignition switch (not the key portion) located inside the steering column. Don't waste your money replacing the blower motor and/or blower resistor. This is a common issue on this make/model Pontic.

unless u are familiar with air bag assemblies I suggest u take it to a qualified mechanic..if u accidently touch something wrong u can deploy the bag and cause serious harm to yourself..u have to remove the air bag in the steering column

for the fan blower motor it could be the resistor or the fan control speed control switch is bad.for no lights replace the DRL RELAY for the lights. for the heated seats check the fuses.

2000 grand prix fan speed


i have been having that same exact problem with my 2002 grand prix for over a year now, and when my ac is on the lower setting the it doesnt work plus the headlights and lights on my dash go out. On Max everything works. i changed the blower resistor(about $35), still doesnt work. i changed all relays and fuses related to the ac, still doesnt work. i changed out the actual ac control switch in the dash, still doesnt work. i have changed everything but the blower motor and have asked every mechanic and auto parts retailer i come across and no one knows the answer. The best answer i got is that it is probably a wiring problem like a short somewhere.

remove steering column covers and check connections at ignition switch..had a truck recently at dealership with similar problem and connector at back of ignition switch was melted..wires were for blower motor and battery feed to switch..had to replace switch and connector/pigtail

Heater and ac blower


I have an '04 with approx. 79000 miles; the blower is going out on mine too. The motor is probably burned out and you will need to replace it. It's about $90 for the part. Kind of a pain to change; I changed the blower motor on my 97 'prix and I had to lay upside down on the passenger seat and work on it upside down. Other than a little physically uncomforable, not too hard to do.

Blower Motor problem


Hi,

Sorry but most that I can give would be generic as Pontiac Grand Prix are not that common in my country. I am assuming you are referring to the fan/blowers of the A/C unit.

Based on your description and from what little I know of the circuitry/wiring of current blowers:
1. the clicking sound would be a relay engaging and therefore the speed selector switch could be assumed to be operational since it can trigger the relay;
2. the day time running lights and auto night lights turning off when engaging the fan switch indicates possibly a common supply problem. This could be a wire or terminal in the fuse block. This common B+12 supply logically would be split into several including the fan blower fuse and the lights fuse. It is also possible that said terminal is corroded or has scorched marks preventing full flow of current or be disconnected intermittently;
3. since you have changed the resistor (presumably known and tested to be good) then the problem lies elsewhere possibly back to #2 above;
4. I would discount any ignition problem as it would be more engine related and has nothing to do with the fan/blower except that it share a common IGN B+12 which again points back to possibly #2; and
5. Though am not sure, but I think your car has also a blower motor control processor which also could be at fault.

I believe your best option would be to use a DVM to check for the presence of B+ supply to the fan motor while going through the switch settings (1 to 5). Thereafter trace back until you reach the resistor and its input of +12, go further back and trace it to the fuse holder and eventually to the common supply. You would have three (3) B+12, a) always ON; b) IGN ON; and blower switch ON.

Would appreciate a post back for any developments or results of your voltage checks.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Again, pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
