Probably a winch arrangement
slide the tire back under
put the bracket in the hole so that it sits across the hole
use the jack handle to wing the chain/cable back up lifting the tire with it
wind up till tight

I also have a 2005 pt cruiser and used to have the same problem. Turned out my spare tire was hanging too low to the ground. I just raised it up higher and the problem stopped. (:

Can i change tire size on my 2006 PT Cruiser

If you stay with the same height as the tires that came with it. You could go with a real big wheel and a super low profile tire or a small wheel with a tire that has a large side wall. You can go with any wide tire as long as it doesn't rub.

I keep turning the lug to lower my spare, but I'm not seeing how the cable that hold the tire in place detaches from the spare itself. Do I keep turning? Should the cable come detached from the car...

  • There is a little "Y" at the end of the cable that goes through the center hole of the wheel. When the cable is lowered almost to the ground you get up to the tire and press up a bit on it and turn they "Y" metal sideways and the tire will drop off. If you can get it to lower all the way to the ground you can just turn the end "Y" sideways and pull it through the wheel.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for choosing FixYa.

I can't get the spare tire out of the rack? 2004 yukon

  • Rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise in order to lower the spare tire to the ground. Continue to rotate the shaft until the spare tire can be pulled out from under the vehicle and removed. If the spare tire does not lower to the ground, the secondary latch is engaged causing the tire not to lower.
  • If the secondary latch is engaged and the cable end is visible, perform the following procedure: 3.1. Tighten the cable by rotating the hoist shaft clockwise until you hear 2 clicks or feel it skip twice. You cannot overtighten the cable. 3.2. Loosen the cable by rotating the hoist shaft counterclockwise 3 or 4 turns. 3.3. If the spare tire can be lowered, repeat steps 1 and 2 to see if the spare tire can be removed. 3.4. If the spare tire cannot be lowered, rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until approximately 15 cm (6 in) of cable is exposed. 3.5. Raise and support the vehicle. 3.6. Place a transmission jack, or equivalent, under the spare tire. 3.7. Position the center of the transmission jack under the secondary latch release button at the center of the spare tire. Arrange the arms of the transmission jack so they will support the tire after it has been released. 3.8. Raise the jack until the spare tire stops moving upward and is firmly held in place, releasing the secondary latch. 3.9. Lower the tire. If the spare tire is hanging by the cable, rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until the tire is low enough to remove.

How do I get the spare wheel from under my 2006 toyota highlander

    Hello.

You have posed a great question, one I am sure future viewers here will want to see answered.

The spare tire, under the vehicle, is lowered via a cable. There is a silver bolt in the rear compartment, under the carpeting. Pull the carpeting back, and you will see the bolt. Using the lug wrench from the tool kit, rotate the bolt counter-clockwise. This will rotate the cable mechanism above the spare tire, and lower it. Once the tire is low enough, the center clamp can be loosened from the center of the rim, and the tire removed from the cable device.

To raise the wheel back up, place the clamp device back into the center of the rim, and rotate the bolt clockwise, until the tire is fully raised.

    Thanks for the Question.

Good place to start, but If you check directly with Chrysler there may be a technical service bulletin, that isn't posted yet. Have the codes cleared when work done, and see what happens.
