My son says his truck won't start with the key but will when hotwired. Possible problems?

if it wont start with the key only when hotwired my idea would go in the direction of the ignition barrel
hotwired start means its not the fuel pump because it runs
its possible the barrel isnt making the connection at the start position

Hi i lost my key for my 2001 venture and i damage the ignition key, how can hotwire?

Go to a breakers yard and get a new ignition key and lock. Hotwiring a car is not as easy as they make it look in the films. You have to get power to the ignition circuit, you also need to light up your dashboard and stuff which is key dependent. When you have done that, you have to energise the starter motor and stop it when the engine fires. And talking of fires, they can happen during hotwiring!

No power to start

Could possibly be the antitheft system disabling your starter. This is rather common on GM vehicles. The antitheft system can't communicate the "OK" signal from the key, so the it disables the starter or fuel injectors thinking it is being hotwired.

In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. Can you reprogram a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick remote?

For a 94-97 single button remote:

- Flip Valet switch to ON position
- With key in ignition, turn key to ON, then OFF
- Flip the valet switch to OFF, then ON/OFF, ON/OFF (that's twice), and you should hear a confirmation siren chirp.
- Turn the ignition switch On/OFF, ON/OFF (twice), and you should get another confirmation chirp.
- You are now in programming mode. Push button on the remote, and you should hear a chirp to confirm programming completed successfully.
- After 5 seconds, the programming mode will close automatically.

Good Luck and please rate 4thumbs up for the free answer and also please leave a Testimonial Thank You.
