Is the heater control in the defrost position? Most cars will automatically turn the air conditioning compressor on when defrost is selected to dehumidify the air being directed on the windshield. This keeps the windshield from fogging up, and helps defog the windshield more quickly if it is already fogged up.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your answer Then what does the heater control in the defrost posision mean? Just turn on air flow to front( There are 3 positions-upper/front/under)"

When running in defrost mode it should kick on and off. Runs all the time, have the codes read.

    Thank you for your information.
I am sorry I don't know "the code"?
    What does the code mean?
When the eng was running------ a/c,heater were not working

Defrost would be the 'upper' position - blowing air on the windshield. Move the selector to 'front' and see if the a/c compressor clutch disengages.
Codes are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that are read from your computer (PCM/ECM) by a scan tool to see if the computer has detected any problems.

I am trying to troubleshoot my 2002 saturn l200. My AC is not working. The button light comes on, but I feel the compressor not coming on. I check the fuse and it's ok?

most likely you are low on freon and the pressure switch will not allow the compressor clutch to engage. one way to tell if that is what is happening is to find the pressure switch located on the low pressure side of the system. you can tell witch line is the low pressure side because it is larger in diameter than the high side. Then take a wire and jump the two wires that go to the switch together. If the compressor starts to run then charge the system with freon. If it does not run then check the relay.

Ac compressor on 92 f350 wont turn on but system is charged

The most common issue with automotive ac not turning on when the system is properly charged is a bad low pressure switch. The easyist way to check is find the switch in the low side line unplug the 2 wires from the back of it and jump the two wires together. If the switch is bad this will turn the ac compressor on, caution should be taken when doing this because if the system is not properly charged and you force it on by jumping the pressure switch you can seriously damage the compressor.

HOW TO FIND OUT IF A/C PRESSURE SWITCH IS BAD

Probably the high pressure switch on the accumulator - try disconnecting the connector and jumping the pins to see if the clutch will engage. If that is the problem, DO NOT leave it jumped - replace the switch.
If that is not the problem, you will have to check the clutch wiring, relay and fuse for continuity back to the HVAC controls. If that is OK, the problem will probably be in your HVAC control module.

How to turn off air compressor on 1999 ford expedition

  • Under the hood in the relay panel will be a relay for the compressor. When you locate the relay box look on the underside of the lid for the legend (layout) of the relays. Pulling that relay will stop the compressor from turning on.
  • You can also just unhook the connector on the compressor and secure it to stop the compressor from turning on.
  • If you need the compressor clutch to not turn at all, like if the bearings are bad, then you need to buy a smaller belt to bypass the compressor all together.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I have electrical problem with AC compressor Blazer 2002. Don't run.

If the compressor clutch isn't locking and turning the compressor the first thing to check is the refrigerant level. If the system is low on refrigerant a safety switch opens the clutch circuit and prevents the compressor from running. The reason for this is that the lubricant for the compressor travels through the system with the refrigerant, so if the system is low the compressor can be destroyed from lack of lubrication.

Ac problem no voltage to ac clutch on dodge caravan 1999 3.3 eng

If you do not have enough refrigerant in the system. The low pressure switch will prevent the compressor from engaging to avoid damage.

Check your pressure.

I don't recommend this, but you may need to jump your low pressure switch to get the compressor going to add more refrigerant to the system. But if your low on charge, it may be "best to take it to a shop to have them fill the system".

To add 134a, which of three wires on the pressure switch should I jump to get the compressor to run to add freon?

you don't need to jump the wires. even if the compressor clutch is not turning add the refrigerant to the low side port, it will go in through its own pressure when a safe level for the compressor to run has been reached the clutch will engage. at first the clutch will spin a second or two and stop and then begin again, from there continue adding refrigerant the clutch should spin continuously. if the clutch fails to ever engage the compressor is bad or there is a wiring problem.

My 2004 isuzu kb250c le double cab has a whine coming from the compensator(sound like a police siren)what is causing this

Your main problem can either be the compressor clutch where the belt fits or the main front bearing behind the clutch assy .
So remove the belt and turn off the engine and check out the front bearing by lifting the pully up and down ,if it moves up/down/side to side then the bearing is NFG if ok then turn on the ign to start and see if you can turn the compressor pully assy if locked up or turns free then get the compressor rebuilt.

My a/c unit rumbles when turned on, and causes the engine stall

It sounds like the compressor may be ready to fail. Run the air and check the clutch. The center of the pully (on the compressor) should be turning with the air on. With the air off the center of the pully will not be turning unless you have the defrosters on.
If it turns randomly with the air on your clutch/compressor may be failing. That is what it sounds like.

03 Chevy Tahoe stalls out while taking a slow

have the a/c compressor checked, the a/c compressor might be locking up due to wear and bad bearings. one way to test is to try turning the compressor clutch while the ENGINE IS OFF, if the clutch is very hard to turn or won't turn at all by hand then the compressor is bad. the clutch is what turns the pully, the pully should spin freely, the compressor clutch is on the end of the compressor on the pully side.
