Question about Subaru Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

2001 Subaru Outback- my wipers stopped working in the middle of a snowstorm.

Completely fine one minute, then both stopped in the middle of my windshield. I can hear the motor running still but zero signs of movement. I've cleared all the snow and ice from around them and warmed it up- still nothing. Help?

You will need to inspect the wiper transmission (this is the part the electric motor turns that swipes the wipers across the window) under the cowl in front of the windshield, it has most likely broken or come loose from link rod or the motor shaft connection came loose.

Regarding a 2001 Subie outback. In intermittent and low speed my wipers travel the proper distance while on the highest setting the drivers side blade travels past the windshield. Any thoughts?

this issue is commonly caused by worn out bushings in the wiper linkage. They are fairly easy to replace just pop out the damaged one and match it up with a new one and pop it back in.
Below is a pic of the replacement ones that come in a multi pack made by dorman

My front washer fluid stopped working on my 2001 subaru impreza outback, I can't hear the motor when I activate it, what's the problem?

Have you check fluid levels? Sounds like there may be a clog with in the lines themselves. Check the lines after the motor. Good luck.

2001 Subaru outback driver side windshield wiper goes to far to the outside tears up the end of the blade - ideas please

I have the same problem with a 2001 Legacy wagon. The problem is not as simple as the solutions above. Mine are adjusted to park as low as possible when off. Even so, the blade on the drivers side goes all the way off the windshield. The Subaru dealer wants to replace the whole wiper blade transmission for about $450. Looking online it seems to be interconnecting arms and pivot points that connect the motor to the wiper blade arms.

Hi. Can someone tell me what would cause the indicator lights for both my brakes and battery to come on. My son is in the middle of driving from Florida to NJ tonight and I don't know if this is a problem...

It is probably a bad alternator. The alternator in my 2001 outback 3.0 went out completely last year and when I bought a replacement remanufactured one both of these lights would come on periodically. I went back to Pep Boys several times until they finally exchanged it with a new one and the problem went away. I never broke down or had the car not start while this was happening though. I would recommend paying the $400+ dollars for the subaru original alternator over the $125 Remanufactured though. It could save you much more in the long run as I think the bad alternator has had other ill effects on my car's electrical system.

Subaru won't start

You've got to assume that the trans oil change is unrelated. With the key in the run position see if the wipers work, if not the battery is dead. Otherwise, try rocking the car back and forth while in park and then hope for a miracle. If all fails, get out the volt meter and start measuring voltages at the starter and the power pack (coil).

2003 Subaru Outback wiper problem..

check the tension on the wiper arm itself...there is a 12mm locknut that will go lose and it being lose will cause the arm to slip on the shaft...there is a cover on that wiper arm hiding that nut

either the headlight switch is defective or the dimmer is, it can't be anything else, do the hi beams work ok, have you tried wiggling the dimmer switch to see if the low beams flicker?
