Location of the coolant temperature sensor on hyundai accent 2002

There are normally two, one with one wire which is for the temp gauge, and one with 2 wires which speaks to the ECU. The later one is usually near the thermostat housing or in the cylinder head nearby. If unsure, get the part from parts store and ask if they can show the location chart.

Here is what I found on P0128 code:
- Leaking or stuck open thermostat
- Low engine coolant level
- Insufficient warm up time
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Engine coolant temperature sensor harness is open or shorted
- Engine coolant temperature sensor circuit poor electrical connection
When is the code detected?
The engine coolant temperature does not reach to specified temperature even though the engine has run long enough.
P0128 Hyundai Description
Coolant thermostat (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature). Indicates that the thermostat monitor has not achieved the required engine operating temperature within a specified amount of time after starting the engine.
I WOULD TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP, ONE THAT HAS YOUNG MECHANICS THAT UNDERSTAND TROUBLESHOOTING CODES AND SEARCHING YOUR CAR COMPUTER FOR SOFT AND HARD CODES THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THIS CODE. YOUR COMPUTER SOMETIMES KEEPS A HISTORY OF CODES.
GOOD LUCK

My 2003 hyundai accent is over heating I replaced the thermostat the belts are fine Im not sure what else it could be

If it only overheats while stopped or when driving slowly then check to see if your radiator fan is coming on. If not check the radiator fan fuse, temperature switch, relay, and the fan motor itself.

If it is consuming radiator coolant or is blowing steam out of the tailpipe then consider a blown head gasket as your problem. The engine oil may or may not look milky in color if the head gasket is leaking.

did you install the thermostat pointing in the correct direction? Is the radiator cap in good shape? Check for correct coolant level. The radiator will continue to draw in coolant from the reservior for many heat cool cycles after it has been opened.

And lastly could the temp gauge be reading high? Possible temperature sensor.

Temp sensor

It should be on or very near to the thermostat housing which should be at the end of the upper radiator hose that is closest to the engine. If not there, follow the coolant hoses/tubes because it measures coolant temperature after the thermostat.

Seems to me it's the engine coolant temperature sensor or the connecting wire to it. Some Model/Year (MY) hyundai's have TWO (2) temperature sensors.. one for the instrument panel/gauge, the other strictly used by the ECU (Engine Control Unit)... if this sensor goes bad, it sends the wrong data/signal to the ECU and this can affect engine performance.
