SOURCE: front wheel shaking in my pathfinder 1998

I have a 1994 explorer that did the same thing and what I had to do is change the radius arm bushings as well as ball joints and tie rod ends - this seemed to fix it, however yours may be a little different but that is where I would start

SOURCE: Steering wheel vibration and whine noise from rear of car

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.

Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.

Good luck,
bob

Pathfinder vibration

check the "u" joints for looseness and wear especially the front drive shaft . check sliding splines . The vibration is a harmonic vibration normally associated with worn "U" joints --bent or out of balanced ---worn /seizing slip joints or being excited by a failing drive thrust bearing in the diff. ( big bearing directly behind the pinion gear that takes all the load on drive) check the magnet on the diff drain plug for metal bits.

Vibration in the drive train at 40 mph in my 1993 Ford 150

I would check the driveshaft universal joints and the play in the yolk joints where the driveshaft exits the transmission and where it enters the differential.
It could be the preliminary vibration caused by the deterioration in a universal joint, forewarning you that it's on the way out. Good Luck Vern
