OLDS 97 REGENCY - Check Engine light is on. constantly Never EVER shuts off, till car is turned off.
I went to get a free code reading at the local auto part store, they say it is the oxygen sensor in the exhaust system, is this correct? And it seems to run fine with the light on, should I be concerned about this issue? Will it screw up anything else I should be aware of? OR can I just ignore it 110% of the time?

The ses lite needs voltage and ground. Voltage goes hot when you turn the key on. The computer controls the ground circuit. I can't rule out, your instrument cluster may have a problem? The ground circuit could be shorted to ground before it reaches the computer. Or the computer has a problem? Just my opinion.
the reason the light is on is because there is a code in the computer that needs to be checked out. it may be a big problem or nothing at all but it should be checked out.
sound like maybe the blend door actuator is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced they are all computerized so if the actuator is not working properly it will store a code and not allow to set climat
If you have no power at all when you turn the key on try changing your battery. If you have power and the starter isn't engaging remove your starter and have it tested to see if is bad. Most of your local auto parts stores do this for free.
when you say stalls, do you mean shut off of just get low on power?
my check engine light comes on and then oil press light come on and the car shuts off but the lights and music stayed on.
if its that the car needs oil and shuts down to protect itself but it will turn on minutes later.
if stalls periodically, shows check engine light and the car looses a bit of power, in the engine, :
1. your coolant may be having problems getting to the engine in the way it was met to get to the engine
2. the belt might be a bit off and that could be why you get the slipping feeling
3. your exhaust may be a bit clogged. or your engine may need cleaning
i had both problems my car shut off and my engine was slipping. my EXPENSIVE but great machanic found out it was my oil level and my coolant was rusty and not getting to the engine. now she drives like the original 97 olds 88
if you have an Autozone near you they will put a tester on it for free or a place or parts store that sells testers and that way you can find out why the check engine light is on because it could be several things that can cause this light to be on
