You need to replace the starter solenoid (part of the starter), the heavy contacts that power up the starter are burnt. This is a common issue.

SOURCE: turn key and wont start 05 2500 silverado

This sounds like a weak battery or corrosion on the battery cable connections. The sound you hear is the relay and not the cylinoid.

SOURCE: chyrsler grand voyager wont start just clicks HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean by bump started? The lights and radio can work, but the battery may be too weak to crank the engine over. The best thing to do would be to drive it to a parts store, where most offer free check of battery and charging system (if you can drive it. If not, 1st remove battery and bring in for testing). The click you hear is classic low battery symptom, although it can be other things. So, 1st get the free test, and post results back here. How old is the battery? (and answer 2 questions!) Thanks

this is not the security system, it is the starter solenoid, the internal contacts of the starter motor solenoid are burned and eroded, it may strat if you try repeated attempts, but it will need the starter solenoid replaced to correct the problem.

SOURCE: starter relay clicks when you turn ignition key on

I would think bad starter. Remove it and have it tested to find out. It could also be the starter solenoid gone bad.

replace the solenoid, but,if you are worried about being stranded, while you are there, replace the starter and on all connections, use electrical grease,to keep corrosion away, always use lock washers so nothing gets loose too.

Dear Mike,
Your truck is a prime candidate for this problem.
Here are the things to check.
Start with the battery, have it "load tested".
That is where someone drains it with a short for about 3-5 minutes, to take the "surface charge" off of it.
If it is good after that, clean the battery posts shiny bright, then go to the cable terminals.
Clean them shiny bright INSIDE.
Examine the battery cables.
Corrosion can build up inside the plastic covers and spoil the cables invisible to the eye.
Next take the starter and solenoid apart and look for fried contacts, or worn brushes.
God bless your efforts.

Your starter solenoid is worn and going bad. Have the starter replaced and it should start every time after that. I had the same car, with the same problem. Change the starter.

the 12 amp is for a jump start and the 2 amp is for a trickle charge which doesn't degrade the battery. i believe you have a loose connection either a loose ground cable or the positive cable to the starter check these and tighten if neccessary

i reckon it could be your starter motor or battery-did the lights come up onto the dashboard when you turned the key-if they did then it is not the battery
