Question about 2003 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have a cylinder that is miss fireing. I have replaced the wires and the plugs. Iwas told that it is probably a valve that went bad. Can you still drive with it in this condition?

Its not recommended to drive a vehicle with bad valves as it may cause major engine damage. Have you checked the ignition coil, this will cause misfire if defective. If this car has a 12valve V-6 engine its a single unit, if its DOHC 24valve v-6 its COPs (Ignition coil over plugs) and ther is 6 units. Hopefully thiss helps

Replaced coil pack on 3800 pontiac bonneville and its still missing what now?

First you need to determine what type of miss you have. Is it random on all cylinders, or is it restricted to one or two cylinders? Random misfire can be caused by crank or cam sensors that are starting to give out. Single cylinder misfires can be due to plugs, wires, coils (you already addressed those), as well as internal issues such as burnt or broken valves.

Misfiring 16 cylinder natural gas electronic engine

plug wire , plug or a valve. usually plug wire will cause a miss a valve if on intake side will cause it to misfire sometime back into the intake. the plug can sometimes fire and sometimes not so simple replacement would fix. compression check would tell if it is valve issue.

Do a Cylinder leak Down Test

You may have bad Valves

Always start with a cylinder contribution test, then
cyl leak down,to check mechanical integrety, before
you start throwing parts at other things

I have a bad miss in a 97 4.6

If you have a code for a miss on one cylinder, it could be the fuel injector instead of the ignition. It could also be a stuck or burnt valve problem.

Cylinder #5 excessive miss fire. Numerous causes:
Bad spark plugs, wrong spark plugs, worn cam lobe, bad injector, bad wiring from PCM to injector, vacuum leak or lean condition, bad spark plugs wires, cap rotor, low compression, stuck/sticking valve, broken valve spring, MAP sensor. To much to discuss without more details....

#1 plug is miss-firing.I have replaced plug and wire, but keeps miss-firing only on#1 plug.have been told that coolant is possibly getting in #1cylinder.also I have been told #1 coil could be bad.witch is...

Could only be a few things. The coil #1, Fuel injector #1, Stuck intake or exhaust valve, or blown head gasket allowing coolant into cylinder #1. Use a spark tester to check the spark coming out of cylindr #1 if checks good then ohm test the injector when it is warm. Check other injectors to compare. Do a compression test on cylinder #1 and test other cylinders to compare. If cylinder is low compression suspect valves and or head gasket. If compression is low then het a leak down tester to test if a valve is broke or sticking. On your sable i would suspect injector or coil most likely.

04' Ram 1500, bad mis-fire. cust repl s/plugs. no help. Codes for coils #7 & 8 w/mis-fire. replaced coils & wire set. Better, but still P0300. Compression good

You still have random misfires (PO300)
You most likely replaced those coils that set a code, and those were not the one bad offender, spiking the computer module.
Take a new coil and put in a cylinder,no change, replace old coil and move new one to next cylinder. You can do that once or twice a day, if you have nothing else to do. You need a 90 degree day, to really get that solved, unless you have an ignition oscilloscope.
Never had a bad spark plug in 45 years.

Hesating, Though I had bad gas, I was told that my first piston is miss fireing. How can I fix it?

You will first need to determine what is causing cylinder number one to missfire. Could be a clogged fuel injector, bad ignition wire, bad spark plug, burnt/bent/stuck valve, cracked cylinder head, bent push rod, collapsed lifter, flat cam shaft. I could keep going, point being there is no easy fix unless we start eliminating possible causes. You having bad gas I would lean more towards the injector or the spark plug.
