Thank you again alternator has been changed 3 times parts store's tell me that this system has external alt. so would it be located as part of the brain;s function

My confusion. Your previous post had me understanding you were saying the regulator was internal to the alternator. I have a 1999 Dakota and it has the internal regulator. I went back and looked at the wiring diagram for your model. The wiring diagram refers to your unit as a generator vice and alternator, and yes, it does get a controlling signal from the Power Control Module (PCM). It comes in on a dark green wire.

I have a 1997 dakota 5.2 motor. Had to replace fan blade & clutch. Im putting a new water pump on now. if i still have noise what other things should i check.

Alternator, A/C Compressor, Power-steering pump, smog pump, idler pully(s).

I would pull the belt(s) and check each pulley for wobble or rough spinning.

Hope this helps

I am stupid when it comes to cars, just to warn you. i need to know exactly how to get to my crank sensor on a 1991 3.9L Dodge Dakota 2wd auto.

Fig. Fig. 3: Crankshaft position sensor location-V6 and V8 engines

  1. Unbolt then remove the sensor from the engine.

To install:
  1. Position the sensor to the engine, then install the mounting bolts, tightening them to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2. Install the air cleaner assembly.

***This can be viewed at autozone.com. become a member and look up repair guide for crankshaft postion sensor. *** be sure mounting surface is clean before installation.

I need to replace the smog pump on my 1991 dodge dakota. I looked at the all of the pulleys etc. and can not find which component that I need to loosen and pivot in order to loosen the belt so I can...

If you have the 3.9 V-6, when looking at the engine as you stand in front of your truck. The smog pump is on your right. You will see one bolt running from the front to the rear of the smog pump on the left side. The bolt is about where nine o'clock would be on it if it were a clock. The bolt is a through bolt, and acts as the pivot. It must be loosened and completly removed.
On the right side, at the three o'clock position you will find the adjustment bolt. It comes from the rear of the smog pump to the front bracket. You will see that it does not have a regular looking nut. But, insteed what I call a trapped nut. A design that stops turning when tighten, or loosened by coming into contact with a part, or bracket. After you remove all of the related hoses, etc. the bolts can be removed allowing the smog pump to be removed. Installation is done in the opposite order. The v-belt is also tensioned by "swinging" the smog pump upward.

Remove the serpentine belt by using a breakover bar, rachet or serpentine belt removal tool with the correct size socket for the pulley mounting bolt. Rotate tensioner arm to release tension. Remove the belt.

Looking for some assistance on replacing my serpentine belt on a 2003 dodge dakota (v6/3.7L). I'm not sure where the tension pulley is (left front facing engine?) and want to make sure I ''tighten'' the...

The tensioner pully is the one that's mounted to an arm, with a square hole to put the 3/8" drive of your ratchet into. Consult the diagram by the hood latch to identify the other pullies, i.e. power steering, a/c, alternator, that should narrow it down for you. It's basically the only pulley not directly attached to a component.
