I don't believe it did either. Fuel pressure ok. I drove it 60,000 miles, never used any oil. It was 3 qts low. I am suspecting major engine problem but I didn't go underneath yet

  • wally sarna Dec 08, 2016

Rechecked compression. Wider variation between #1,2 & #3,4

  • wally sarna Dec 11, 2016

I did not do "wet"compression test yet.It never burned oil, minor leaks. I will investigate further&post comment. I am suspecting a broken or dropped valve due to compressed air sound coming back through throttle body while cranking. It will not run,so oils pressure is unknown

    Yes, an intake valve, maybe.

Disappointed, hoped for more service. Just not worth major engine repair. Thank you for sharing thoughts&expertise. As my diagnostic progressed,I knew the end result was not good

  • wally sarna Dec 25, 2016

Hi jack,my conclusion is piston/ring failure. Wet compression test showed improvement, but with each check, compression dropped further. I have given up on the car. Just too old to do bottom end repairs. Thank you for contributing

If you blasted abunch of carb and choke cleaner into the throttle body, without keeping the engine running it possible that it has pooled on the intake and fouls the plugs as soon as you crank it.
I've had to run a hose down the intake, into a jar theb using my shop vac to suck it up into the jar just by holding vac intermitantly over the jars mouth

Make sure the battery has a full charge. Sometimes with a lot of testing/cranking, it will run the battery down.
If you still have spark at all the plugs, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, engine cranking. I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but, wouldn't make good fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse, engine cranking. Any applicable trouble codes?

Battery fully charged. Only code was 303,cylinder misfire. Doing compression test caused it to not start at all after completed

  • jack layton

I don't believe checking compression should have caused a problem. Just my opinion?

  • jack layton
    jack layton Dec 08, 2016

Any applicable trouble codes? If it cranks good, but, won't start, the basics are to check fuel--spark--compression. I don't know, I need more info? At the moment, I got nothing else.

  • jack layton
    jack layton Dec 09, 2016

Three quarts low, that is low. You didn't give compression specs? If cranking rpms are faster than normal, that sounds like compression issue.

  • wally sarna Dec 10, 2016

#1, 90 #2,60. #3 120 #4 150. Initial comp test was much more balanced. I am hearing a gush of pressure out of throttle body from one cylinder while cranking. Broken valve? But where did the oil go?

  • wally sarna Dec 10, 2016

    3 years,60K miles,it never used a drop of oil,religious oil changes every 3K

  • jack layton
    jack layton Dec 10, 2016

My info says 180--190 psi for compression test. I don't know if the engine burned the oil or if it leaked out.
Usually with a compression test, the second test, you can add a little oil to cylinder, if the readings are better than rings are bad. If not much effect then valves.
What does oil pressure look like?

My nephews hyundai new coil pack did this turned out to be the cars wire harnes connector was crumbling.
After verifieing car would run as i heldconnector together and die when i let go, and the fact that there were individual connectors for each coil on the coil pack, i simply eliminated the main connector soldering and heat shrink tubing the wires.
A new connector pigtail may be available if thisis the issue.
Recheck yourplugs and if not new replace new plug wires have come down in price and new plugs and wires may be the solution.

I have a 1997 saturn sw2 that stopped runnuing changed fuel pump wont idle error code #4 cylinder is miss fireing changed ignition module car starts runs ruff changed spark plugs & wire set

You need to make sure the cylinder is getting fuel and that it doesn't have a vacuum leak at the intake that is leaning it out and causing a misfire, if that checks ok then determine if the #4 cylinder has acceptable compression as compared to the other three, all cylinders should been within 5% of the cylinder with the highest pressure on test.

Car starts and runs but in reverse starts shaking SES lights up and blinks. Have changed the plugs but are getting a P0340. It's an 1998 Saturn 112,000 miles. What could it be?

DTC P0340 will set if the PCM voltage on cylinder #4 signal wire is not pulled to ground (cam signal pulse) when:
Diagnostic Aids
Important: A cam pulse missing may not affect engine operation.
?€¢
An open or high resistance on the #1 plug wire or plug will result in DTC P0340 setting.

?€¢
Inspect the EIS towers and plug the wire connections for corrosion or other signs of poor retention at connections.

The electronic ignition (EI) module supplies a signal to the PCM whenever it determines that the #4 cylinder fired on its compression stroke. Because of opposite coil tower polarity, the simultaneous fir of #1 and #4 cylinders are of opposite polarity as well. Under most conditions, except decel, the waste spark cylinder fires before the compression cylinder in sequence. The EI module can determine this polarity sequence and voltage amplitude by using capacitive pickup plates located under the 1/4 coil. If the module senses a positive to negative sequence and high negative spike when #4 is on TDC, it pulls the PCM cam signal to ground signaling that #4 has just fired on compression. This signal along with the double pulse received from the CKP sensor, synchronizes spark and fuel timing.
Beside plugs , plug wires need to be replaced as well !

I have a miss fire on cylinder 2and 3 I have changed coil pack ,spark plugs and wires still have the missing in it did not make a difference what else can I do

Is the computer code coming up as a misfire or are you actually feeling the misfire when you drive? Make sure all the grounds for the coil packs and engine are solid and clean. Many times there is rust corrosion under the pack or the retaining screws etc, Low compression can feel like a misfire as well. If all items are OK do a compression check to verify its not an issue.

Fix obd-II code p0304/p0300

You need to run a compression check on the engine, no cylinder should show a pressure reading of more than 5% lower than the highest reading observed on any cylinder. Also have you verified number four cylinder is actually getting fuel injector activation, hook up a 12 volt probing test light (see picture below) and probe the connector to #4 cylinder, the light should blink rapidly when the engine is running, this indicates the injector is operating and delivering fuel. I also suggest you have the dealer run an electronic cylinder balance test, it takes a special tool but well worth the money.

Number 3 and 4 are not firing from coil on 2002 subaru outback 2.5

its faulty coil.

Get the compression test done on each coil.these will let you know if its faulty coil or not.

=========

It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

2003 SATURN VUE SERIVE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS BLINKING ON AND OFF RAN THE OBDII READER AND CODE P0304 CYLINDER MISFIRE CAME UP I CHANGE SPARK PLUGS AND BOOTS BUT CAR STILL DRIVES ROUGH SHAKES AND WHEN PARKED...

The P0304 indicates the #4 cylinder is misfiring. The flashing light means the cylinder is not firing at all...It could be several things causeing it, coil, wires, plug, injector or vacuum leak. Do not drive your vehicle until you have this repaired, as it will lead to further more costly problems. Good luck, i hope this helps.

My car is only running on 3 cylinders1991 saturn what could this be?

This could be a few things, you need to check spark to the cylinder that is misfiring. then check the wire, plug and coil for spark. After making that assessment you can make a better diagnosis from there as to what the problem is. if you are getting spark the cylinder and the plug gap is correct (or not too far out of specification) then you would need to do a compression test and verify that the cylinder is compressing the air/fuel mixture. If compression is good then you need to check for fuel to the cylinder. one of these things is the cause of your problem.

Have a misfire on cylinder 3

Hello
Here is what to check let me know if you need help checking this out
most common misfire causes on the cars I've worked on have been:
  1. Spark plugs
  2. Spark plug wires
  3. Ignition coil
  4. Fuel injector
  5. Wiring to fuel injector
  6. Timing Belt
  7. Vacuum leak or stuck open EGR
  8. Contaminated fuel or bad fuel pump
  9. Weak compression
  10. Blown head gasket

Engine code states cylinder 2 misfire. Replaced

sounds like a bad injector, just connection at the injector, also check for leaks at intake, one more thing , do a compression test on that cylinder start there, good luck.
