Question about Jeep Cherokee

This problem started to happen when the outside temperature started cooling down sometimes it works great and some times it takes very long time to get it to work(what does work mean?)

When i put the shifter into drive and it shows 3gear the fans speed up and it takes off in third only ????

Wow, you only what guessing, on the 2005 WK grand Cherokee posted on non grand.
no engine size stated

the trans brain and the engine brain (EFI)both think engine is overheating.
with no tools , no books, no scan too, and no motivation to learn, then what is the answer

RTM ? it tells you to get the car serviced.
the thermostat may be bad, or coolant never serviced in 10 long years,
so is bad.

get there car fixed
but like 99% of the helpless, and do that.
asking how to fix a car with no tools or books on them is a receipt to danger, to you and car.

EG: I have no tools
I want you to guess only, no diagnosis allowed here.
go for that...

    the 5.7L PCM thinks engine is overheating'
    is it? so does the TCM too.

    did you read your post, there is NO QUESTION ASKED AT ALL.
    QUESTIONS:
    1: how to diagnose overheating, the true reason fans run high and trans goes to limphome.

    2: I have no tools so please just guess,do not give advice, on how to diagnose or to buy tools I fear them. I dont ever want to learn., technology....

    if i was a mechanic id not post here.
    sure, we get that,! now that it was said !
    ok, ill guess, but only wild
    and only, cheap....
    the rad fluid is low, in the actual radiator.
    that means for now , dont look in the side expansion tank, look in RAD NECK.

    when it drops, the engine brain does nuts.

    asking skilled people how to diagnose and fix
    complex cars with no tools
    is a useless ploy. (really its more of a game, no?, guessing like kids and worse all are blind?)
    but why not say that up front.?
    my engine is acting, up bla bla.
    do not tell me how to diagnose it.!

    just tell me wild guessing blind.
    ok the engine is running hot.
    or the AF fluid is low, or both,
    you do know that one can cause the other, right>? and the REVERSE.
    low fluid it over heats.
    or
    overheats and boils the fluid out.
    all water cooled engines, do that.
    for 25 reason on my list.

    learn this too, IMO, (skills)
    if the engine overheats, the trans does to ,
    via to 2 thermal paths.
    so the engine fan is FIRST
    see why,
    because the engine must not over heat.
    or even fool the PCM in to thinking it is.

    or the PCM will dump the trans to limphome.
    (that's right it will not shift right , by DESIGN !!!)
    this saves big money when you dont burn up a perfectly good transmissions, a WIN/WIN

    diagnose (oops guess)why the fan is on?.
    answer, the PCM did that, (engine brain)
    why did it do that, ?
    answer: the PCM saw overheat from the ECT sensor. and maybe the trans thermal sensor too. (ill not say scan it , that be EVIL)

    end facts, end story.
    next is TRUE RAD LEVELS, INSPECTIONS COST zero.
    like pulling teeth..

A lot of the time when that happens it is crank sensor it starts to get hot and stuffs up how I check and it work sometimes is poor cold water all around the sensor area after it stops and if she starts up after you cooled it down you found the problem then just replace it

You need a new thermostat by the sounds of it, or the heater core is plugged.

The a/c started working on and off. sometimes was cooling then other times warm air only,. Had the coolant checked it was fine. I noticed the other day when you check the outside temp. the was way off...


Hi. Try to check first your refrigerant. One cause of this problem is refrigerant is running low. Did this happened from the time you turn on the AC? or at first AC is cold then after driving for a certain period of time the AC will get warm?

My lincoln mk8 AC started cooling some times and not cooling at other times. The outside temperature is always way off from what it should be when the AC stops cooling. My car has about 60,000 miles on it....


might be the same thing.. but maybe not

personally, it sounds like your IAT (intake air temp) sensor if your dash is displaying incorrect temperatures

If outside temp is less than 60 your a/c should not operate full time and if outside temp is less than 30 won't work at all

My cooling fan does not come on when car is started.both the ac and cooling fan comes on when ac is started


The cooling fan is required to operate when the engine temperature rises above the maximum operating temperature threshold.
After the car is started, it will usually take some time for this temperature to be reached.
Ensure fan runs when fan control temperature sensor switch demands.

It is possible that some of the glow plugs might not be working. This will cause a hard start and smoking condition especially in cold weather.
