Question about 1992 Jeep Cherokee Briarwood

I have had the same problem but before i was even thinking of

Taking it to a repair shop and spending ungodly amounts of cash i don't have i did one simple thing that no one said anything about, i checked all my vacuum hoses and found one that goes to the canister that was cracked and did not hold sufficient pressure. and because of this nothing was doing what was suppose to, i cut a small piece off put it back on and after priming it- it started the first time and has been ever scene.

That is what I recommend for a first solution to all my customers. Check all vacuum lines, then electrical connections, fuses ect.

How do I repair an emissions exhaust leak after the turbo and before the catalytic converter?

There is no catalytic converter in a 2001 VW TDi.

If it is just an exhaust leak take it to a muffler shop like Midas, it is surprisingly cheap, like 50$. Exhaust isn't really a DIY thing unless you know how to weld. In which case, find the hole weld a patch on it.

What if the car is stuck in limp mode and it loses power?

if it won`t start call a tow truck to take it to a shop. if you don`t want to spend the money for a tow you won`t want to spend the money to repair the car anyways.

You are going about diagnosing the problem the wrong way. In fact, you are not diagnosing at all, but GUESSING. This can be a VERY EXPENSIVE way to get your problem repaired.

I have seen so many people that tell me they "cannot afford" to take their vehicle to an auto repair shop to get it properly diagnosed. Then they go to the local parts chain and spend their entire paycheck on parts that do not fix the car. Somehow, people like this believe that these huge parts chains, with their BILLIONS of dollars worth of assets and inventory are not making the money off of them that the local independent repair shop would make.

The people that own these big parts chains like you to keep thinking that way so they can grab even more of your hard-earned cash. They take advantage of the underpaid working class and feed them full of false beliefs on how TRUE economy works.

The people that are "guessing" what is wrong with ther vehicles usually end up replacing a LOT of parts of the vehicle, with cheap, sub-standard parts and do not perform the repairs correctly because they are not trained, nor do they have the proper equipment to do it the way it should be done. This causes even more failures in the vehicle withing a short period of time, which makes them go right back to the big parts chains and give them even more of their money! They end up spending $500 trying to save $50 and create another several hundred dollars' worth of problems in the process. Yet they continue to believe that it is "cheaper" this way simply because they are not paying somebody else to fix their car for them......this is what I call FALSE ECONOMY.

If you want proof of what I am saying, all you have to do is LOOK at who has the billions! It certainly is not the local independent repair shops!

Anyway, Your onboard computer network is capable of self-diagnosis. To even attempt any kind of diagnosis of your engine control system without interfacing with the computer that controls your engine is about as effective as trying to control the water going over Niagra Falls by catching it with a shot glass.

So, my recommendation to you is to get your vehicle properly diagnosed by a professional auto repair technician who has the training, knowledge and equipment to diagnose it properly. Then, once you know what is actually CAUSING the problem, you can still make the repairs yourself and save some money that way, if you still think you are qualified and have the tools to do it correctly. This can save you hundreds of dollars in guesswork, additional problems, and repeat repairs.

Engine starts and runs for 2 seconds then dies. I have tried both keys with same results. There are no warning lights and no codes.

Had same concern with my 2002 Beetle Turbo S on 9/11/2011. Tried both keys too.If problem started all of the sudden and no other symptoms tow car to dealer with both keys and have them both programmed. For some ungodly reason it is a common problem for these keys to lose program and cause immobilizer system to engage because security system thinks car is being stolen so it will start and die in 1-2 seconds. Another option is you can search for the free step by step software online to program them from your laptop but you must have an OBD connector that connects to vehicle onboard diagnostic connector and must be a USB port on other end to connect to laptop. Don't know where you could buy this cable, I lucked up and had a friend that owns a repair shop who let me borrow the one that connects to his OBD scanner. As soon as they were programmed vehicle started immediately.

We took our 05 equinox to the shop for rear wheel bearing replacements, the owner of the shop called and said the center carrier bearing was really really bad and he could replace it. We said ok to the...

That work should ONLY be done by a
Drive Shaft Specialty Shop ,that repairs
& balances lots of things,not just driveshafts

I will agree with you, as I don't know

But a dealer will sell you the whole deal,
so I never recommend them for even a car wash

There may be,just saying,don't know, a very few that
can't be repaired.

I would pick it up & personally take it to a driveshaft
shop & not pay anything for that part of the work
agreed to.

I never had those issues when i had my trans shop,
because I followed my rules & I was a machinist
before, so there isn't much I can't do

Flywheel,Clutch &Driveshaft Balancing & tire
mounting I personally take out of shop & stand by
to see the work getting done.

Your not even going to see that,
when you spend hundreds of dollars
for the factory manuals, from Helm

If you have photos and instructions, I
doubt you will enjoy that job,in your driveway
or on a lift in a repair shop. I have done both

Do you have a large amount of quality tools
mostly metric,a floor jack,jack stands etc?

Engine lite, detonation problem, rattle sometime when accelation

o2 sensors and/or ignition coil(s). they prolly burnt out your catalytic converter and thats why you hear rattles. same problem but im buyin a new one so what do i care - let the dealer deal with it. 02 sensors are like 80-1xx bucks and coils are like 50 a pop. not too expensive just look around and get a handy friend to replace it. shops will ******** you and charge ungodly amounts. good luck!

How much will an acura legend tail light repair cost?

It will cost you anywhere from $50 to $100 to get someone to put a replacement lens in for you (labor only). But shop around, depending on where you live, it could be more. And before you go out and spend a fortune on a new one, check your local salvage yards. If they have one, it'll save you a decent amount of cash!
