Question about 2000 Renault 181

The radiator fan runs continuously after engine is off.

The fan will run until the battery is completely dead. we have already replaced the battery once from this problem. We can usually get the fan to stop by starting and then turning off the engine several times. Sometimes though, It just won't turn off at all, and then the battery dies. Our mechanic couldn't find the problem. Any suggestions?

I hae the same problem with my Espace 3. Trouble is, even if I disconnect the temperature sensor near the top waterhose, both fans are still running. There are two relays, one for each fan, and disconnecting any one would only stop the corresponding fan.
Seems like something is sending a false signal.
Fans doesnt stop even after half hour.

2011 tiguan engine cooling continues to run

The relay that powers the motor is stuck in the on position. Or the sensor that controls the relay is fubar. Till issue resolved simply disconnect the fan when ignition is off or hook up a manual on/off toggle switch.

How to fix a fan that won't quit running in a 2006 gmc denali

Yes there is a fan fuse, see your owners manual, but will need to be replaced every time you want to drive the truck. The easiest way is to remove the + battery cable to save your battery from dying until you can replace the fan itself. Its not running hot or anything? This can be a safety feature to cool engine if it is.

Hi Joe. For your information you never but never fill a radiator when the engine is hot and engine running. Must first have a cool engine open the radiator and if is only topping up coolant be first sure that the water is clean and fresh ( drain the old coolant first ) and after leaving a space for the coolant top up and always not overfill . Then you start the engine and let it run in idle with radiator cap off, turn also the heater on to hot air for helping the coolant to circulate. When you see that the temperature rise close the radiator and continue with engine on idle until the fan starts. Leave the car running till the fan cut out. Switch engine off,let it cool down - for dropping the pressure - and after you do open the radiator to check for any need for topping up coolant. As soon as you have completed just close the radiator.

I have a 2007 Toyota matrix and the fan that cools the motor will not shut off even when I turn the car off, this causes the battery to run down, any ideas what the problem might be

Does the fan really run until the battery goes dead?? OR are you afraid that it might run until the battery is dead?? In many cars, the fan will continue to run for a short time after you shut it off.... until the engine coolant is cooled to a certain point. It can also run for a while when you've been using your air conditioner. Now, if it is actually running continuously and won't turn off, there is a sending unit somewhere that isn't functioning correctly, either in your cooling system... or your air conditioning system. You're going to need to do some research and find out which sending unit might be the culprit..... or take it to the shop. They'll know what to do and can probably quickly fix it.

Possibley a short in the wiring to the fan, i would check the underhood fuse box for a relay or fuse to remove so as to save the charge of the battery until you can isolate the issue. Water intrusion in the front frame area is typical.

2001 BMW 325ti Wagon Radiator Fan turns on by it self in the middle of the night or day even if the car wasn't driven. could this be the control module, is it located on the fan shroud?

Hi matthew,

The auxiliary fan for your car is known for internally shorting to power. The fan could run continuously until the battery is completely exhausted. I would recommend having it checked/ and or replaced soon. The fan is replaced as an assembly unfortunately.

Coolant fan stays on after the engine is turned off, and runs until the battery is dead.

There's a thermostat control switch that lets the fan run after engine shutdown to bring the coolant temp down to an acceptable level. If the fan continues to run, this switch has gone bad. Any major parts store, or a Lincoln dealer, can sell you a replacement switch and show you a diagram that will let you locate and replace the bad one.
