Question about 1997 Isuzu Hombre

I have a 97 izuzu hombre and ever since i changed out the plugs its been getting a gas smell

The 4cy. or the v6 (4,x,V)
there are plugs, wrong plugs, or
gaped wrong, and new plugs can be bad, I have a nice collection of new mutant spark plugs. on the wall.
wires bad. whey you replace spark plugs
the wires break so put new NGK wire on it , mag wire are best.
or you mixed the wire order.
do not mix the HV wire( the large high voltage wire)
that apples to both distriubors and the 4 cylinder 2.2L with 2 coil packs
the V6 has one coil pack
the gap is .045 v6 and spark gap 2.2 is .040"

that leak is not a leak its called flooding
when you damage the spark wires,
spark ends,
and every cylinder with dead spark floods
can even drip fuel from the exhaust port flanges.
seen it vast times.
next time I will read all post

When changing the clutch on my 98 izuzu hombre, when I pull the gear shift lever out of the transmission, does the tranny have to be in a specific gear.

It should not matter to what gear the tranny is in when the stick is removed. I prefer to pull it in neutral

Type your problem for a solution... fuel odor

probably some of fuel injector o rings are leaking. you need to replace o rings. there is fire hazard. also check for cracked fuel lines.
