The LED lamps are not plug-in replacements for incandescent ones because they place a much lower load on the flasher.

What benefit do 12 volt led light bulbs have?

Due to the solid state design of LED lighting, there are some important features that will be very useful especially when it comes to outdoor, landscape LED lighting. Safety of 12V LED lights. First distinguishing feature is safety. As compared to incandescent landscape lighting, low voltage LED lights are much more energy efficient and because of that, they are more fireproof. In other words, with lesser energy flow, the chances of fire getting started due to malfunction, overheating, or similar circumstance is relatively lower. Also, the electric short can not cause as much damage as with the 110V voltage lights. As opposed to halogen lights, there is hardly a fear of explosion of the LED light bulb upon overheating or other malfunction. Finally, LED lights are cold to the touch, adding to passers by safety.

2003 Silverado one ton shows -11.7 volts at brake lamp connections. Truck light work ok but the trailer brke light are leds and they don't handle the -11.7 volts.

Hello! Place a 1/4 watt, 50 ohm resistor in series with the +12 battery feed to the trailer LED brake lights...Each LED drops 3.6 Volts...You can run a maximum of 3 LED's per resistor...If you have more than 3 LED's run them in parallel with each set of 3...Each run of 3 requires it's own 50 ohm resistor...

LED does'nt work on tail light but conventional bulb is working

Your description indicates the replacement led bulb is either defective or not a direct replacement for the ordinary bulb, which I assume is a 2-filament stop/tail type because if you have a good ground and both supplies are present as indicated by the fact the ordinary bulb worked fine, the led should similarly work if it is good.

I suggest you check the supply voltages while the led is fitted. It might happen that some device in the lighting circuit is monitoring the amount of current or resistance of each bulb and will not provide a supply unless it "sees" the correct amount.

LED side lights

Hi,

I had a similar problem when I fitted LED sidelights, they worked with the key turned but as soon as I started the engine they went out again. The "bulb out" error came up on the dash too. It's caused by the low current consumption the LEDs have, and thus the computer thinks a bulb has blown. You can get resistor kits to solve this but it's a lot of hassle. I just went for blue coated sidelights from a company called Ultra bulbs, they produce a bright white light.
