Question about 2001 Nissan Sentra
Sounds like the timing has jumped a tooth or two. Be careful running the engine since the valves can be bent beyond repair.

Transmission shift indicator light on center console.
First make sure the fuse is good.
If the fuse is good then remove the screws holding the center console cover. You will need a long and short phillip screwdriver. Look for screws in the cup holder, under the handbrake handle and where the console runs under the dash. You may have to move seats forward/backward to reach the screws. When you attempt to raise the console cover you will notice you overlook a screws. Remove them also. You may be able to reach the bulb without removing the gear shift handle. DO NOT TOUCH any other electronics you see. The AIRBAG ACTUATOR is located here also. Replace bulb. Test before reassembly. Good Saturday morning project.

The knock sensor is located under the intake manifold. The best way to get to it is to lift the car completly up go undert it and look right under the intake manifold. There is a steel tube about 2inches thick that will be blocking your view but its right behind it.GOOD LUCK.

V6 3.3L The sensor is located underneath the air intake manifold on top
of the engine block. This should take an experienced mechanic about 3-4
hours to replace.
