My battery on my 1997 Pontiac grand prix keeps getting drain and my alternator is fine and I just replaced the starter but my battery getting drain and I don't know why

seems a silly answer but give it a try; check your trunk light switch... if it fails your trunk lights will either stay off or stay continuously on resulting a battery drain

Battery wont stay charged

If the alternator is good and the battery is new, then something is draining the battery while it's parked. In the old days people left their headlights, radio or something on and this drained the battery. Now a days this is not as big a problem with 5 minute timers that turn off lights if you forget. I would take it back to whomever did the alternator work for an answer. How old is the battery? You can take it to see if it can't hold a charge any longer. In my experience, most batteries don't seem to hold a charge after about two years. Did anyone do some custom work in your car that requires electricity? It could be this extra stuff is draining the battery.

Whats wrong when the computer as ys check your charging station

Does the radio turn on when you turn ignition. If not then the Battery
has bad cell. Replace battery. Battery's in Olds Aurora 98 typically
get a very long life. 6 years . After 6 I recommend replacing battery
If your car turns what does your battery read. If it's reading only 12 V
with eng. going, your alternator has gone out. If battery is new then you'll need to find another reason your battery is draining charge.

Why do i have to charge the batt. every two to three days

The simple answer is the alternator is not charging the battery, or you have something draining the battery when the engine is off.
Have you checked the alternator output with a meter ?

Could be the fuel pump relay staying on, it should turn off when turn off the key, sometimes the Tech will jump the system to drain the fuel out and may have installed the relay incorrectly.

The running lamps stay on after the engine is turned off.

I had this problem on a 98 aurora as well. My lights would flicker on and off, then eventualy run the battery down. I ended up reading a thread where the turn signal/wiper/high beam stalk was the culprit. I pulled the whole thing apart, sprayed it with wd40/ cleaned it up, and never had the problem again. Try to find a thread that tells you how to get all that apart, it was very helpful. Good Luck

  • Hi! try to check the wirings and also check the fuse for the headlights make sure it is not busted and if you will replace it make sure you use the right fuse amp.
