SOURCE: automatic transmission wont catch into any gear

You sould have been moore frequent on your transmission fluid changes, and you shouldn't have taken it to Jiffy Lube either. Your best bet is to drain and fill the trans fluid run it shift gears. Drain and fill again. Do this 3 times. Yeah the transmission fluid is expensive. on the last drain and fill you want to get a bottle of LUBE GUARD from NAPA or who ever sells it. put the whole 10oz bottle in. Shift Rev, 1, 2, 3, D. Neutral Rev D. If that don't work then you have bad seals.

2000 pontiac grand prix wont go into to nuetral without a battery how to i move the gear shifter into nuetral without the battery

There should be a small removeable piece of plastic or a hole near the gear shifter that you put a small screw driver and push down to move the relay actuator so you can shift it manually as the relay requires power and a you have to press the brakes to actuate it, if no power to it then you have to remove flap or find the hole and use screwdriver to push down on the actuator then it will shift.

Cannot shift out of park. Have drove this car for 10 years and this has never happened!

Set the emergency brake.

Locate the shifter lock override slot located on the shifter console near the shifter lever. Normally, the slot is plugged with a small plastic cap.

Remove the plastic cap covering the override slot and insert a key, nail file or similarly shaped object into the slot and push down.

While pushing down, depress the brake pedal, grab the shifter and push in the shifter lock button located on the shifter as you normally do and then move the shifter to the Neutral position. With the brake pedal still depressed, start the engine with the shifter in the Neutral position.

Shifting gears wont go, it wont get in or fit right on the dot

? Que? Do you mean that it doesn't select or move freely? Gets too notchy maybe? Has this car done alot of miles? Or just a good lot of gear shifts? All Diahatsu and Yaris have horrible gear selections.. what you COULD do is strip down the gear shift, check the ball on the end of the shifter for scoring, put in a decent grease (into the ball reccess) or sometimes there is heavy wear on the metal part of the shifter, just above the ball, if so, weld back up or if no welder try chemical metal. This will also have the effect of a shorter gear change. ok?

My 2007 Chrysler 300 starts fine but will not shift into any gear

I just finished repairing my 2007 - 300 for the same issue. Pulled in the garage.. went to go out , and could not get the shifter out of park. Researched this issue online.. First step is to remove the right side plastic holder next to the shifter. There is a small hole that has a pink plastic piece. Push this in while moving the shift lever out of park. If the shift lever does not move, then the other "pink thingy" piece that is located inside the shifter box has most likely broken. There is a tiny spring that attachs to this pink piece ( probably a $0.50 piece of poorly engineered product ) that breaks off. See the following link on how to fix this problem. I drilled a small hole in the pink plastic piece where the small hook broke off.. then attached a cotter pin through the hole , and fastened the spring to that... should not have any further problems.. this link demonstrates how to remove the shifter box. The entire process took me roughly 2 hrs to complete... saved myself hundreds of repair dollars!!

Same Problem-My 2006 GX470 won't start -Key won't turn.

Had the same issue with my wife's 2005 Lexus GX470. The issue is that the shifter is not in park (even though it seems it is). The other issue is that without the key turned, you can not move the shifter to neutral. If you look closely at the gear shift, on the left above the P (Park Symbol) there is a small rectangular box that has a **** on one side. _862.jpgTake a small screwdriver and lift the plastic cover which will reveal a button. With your foot on the brake, push the button with one hand and now you will be able to move the shifter to neutral with the other hand. Now, put it back in park and you should now be able to turn your key and start your car. Put the little piece of plastic you removed over the button and go on your way.

How do you remove shifter being stuck at park for a 1990 toyota camry?

For the short term and as a temporary measure, the shift lever can be released by depressing shift lock override button which is in a small hole next to the shifter, typically covered with a small piece of plastic.

A permanent fix is needed though. The transmission shifter has a safety interlock. You must depress the brake to release the interlock in-order to shift into a drive or reverse gear. This system is powered by electricity. The fuse may be blown. Check the fuses for faults. The brake pedal / brake light circuit must be functioning in order to put the car in gear. Check the blue 10amp brake light fuse. Make sure the wiring in the trunk does not have breaks that may cause the fuse to blow

2005 Mustang Automatic Shifter

The solution is that you must purchase the complete shift housing because it is all one piece and you can't just replace part of it.The dealer told me this is about $250.00 U.S. and it can be replaced by an intermediate skilled tinkerer. For right now I just live with the inconvenience as I can pretty much guess what gear Im in.
