Why does radiator fan work when air conditioner is on but not when heater is on?


Rediator fan should turn on when the temperature sensor goes overs certain value. Probably when you are using a heater, outside temperature is quiet low and air cooling helps to keeps water temperature lower then the minimum to turn the fan one.

Now , this is just a guess! To se sure, turn on your car parked and check the temperature. If goes over the value where fan should turn on, you've got a problem with the termostat or the relay.

By the way, why do you repeat your question? To the same question you'll get the same ansewer. If you don't get an answer or you feel it is not the best answer you expect, you can repeat you question later and maybe it will be answered by someone else.

AC not getting cold


The refrigerant (it's not freon) needs to be at a specific level. If there's too much, or not enough, it will not get cold.

Some things to look for:
Compressor cycling. The compressor turning on and off repeatedly in, relatively, short time periods; typically within 20 seconds. If it is doing this, it is most likely low on refrigerant. If it does it very rapidly, it could mean that there's too much.

Make sure that the temperature selector on the climate control system changes air temperature. If it does not, there may be an issue within the air mode mix motor, or the blend door.

I replaced rear wheel barrings on my 2004 crf 450. I disonnected brake line when doin this. i then put everything bck together and bled brakes got air out. rode bike tested out n brakes didn't work. so...


U didn't have to disconnect the brake line to take wheel of but anyway make sure the brake line fittings are tight and make sure u put the the copper washer back on the fitting then bleed the brakes again by filling pumping then undoing bleeder a little then keep repeating till the brakes reel hard and make sure the brake pads are moving.

Obd2 system rediness status won't clear so I can run the smog test due to replacing the battery.


takes a long time to run the rediness test since there are 6 different tests to complete...

EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK MONITOR
Inspection Conditions
Engine coolant temperature: 30°C (75°F) or less (The engine is stopped before the test drive is started).
Atmospheric temperature: 5 - 30°C (41 - 113°F).
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Fuel remained in fuel tank: 30 - 50% is recommended.
Time required: 16 minutes or less after started the engine.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position. Well be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 89 km/h (55 mph) or more and travel for 16 minutes.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 89 km/h (55 mph) or more and travel for 30 minutes.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

PROCEDURE 3
CATALYTIC CONVERTER MONITOR
Drive Cycle Pattern
Inspection Conditions
Atmospheric temperature: -10°C (14°F) or more.
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Engine coolant temperature: Not set.
Time required: 16 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Travel for 300 seconds or more while keeping the vehicle speed at 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Decelerate until the vehicle speed is within 80 km/h (50 mph) or less.
While traveling at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) for 10 minutes or more, fully close the throttle at least once in 2 minutes and decelerate for 10 seconds or more.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Vehicle speed may go below 56 km/h (35 mph) after the deceleration.
Stopping and braking are permitted. (If stopped or drive at 56 km/h (35 mph) or less for more than 5 minutes the monitoring may be stopped. In this case please restart monitoring from the beginning.)
After completing the above deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 5 times.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR MONITOR

Inspection Conditions
Engine coolant temperature: 100°C (212°F) or more.
Atmospheric temperature: -10°C - 60°C (14 - 140°F) or more.
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Time required: 16 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and travel for 16 minutes or more.
Stopping and braking during this operation are permitted. Keep the accelerator opening degree constant for 1 minute or more after each acceleration.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

PROCEDURE 5
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) SYSTEM MONITOR
Drive Cycle Pattern
Inspection Conditions
Engine coolant temperature: 100°C (212°F) or less.
Atmospheric temperature: 5 - 60°C (41 - 140°F).
A/C switch: OFF.
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Time required: 16 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While traveling 16 minutes or more at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) with engine speed 2,000 r/min or above, fully close the throttle at decelerate for 5 seconds or more until the engine speed reaches 1,000 r/min or under.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Stopping and braking are permitted (Rapid deceleration and sharp steering are not permitted).
After completing the deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 8 times by fully closing the throttle valve.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

PROCEDURE 6
OTHER MONITOR (Main Components, Sensors & Switches, Wire Breakage & Short Circuit)

-10°C (14°F) or less (Engine coolant temperature sensor monitoring).
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Time required: 21 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 km/h (35 mph) or more.
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 56 km/h (35 mph) or more and travel for 16 minutes or more.
Return the vehicle to the shop.
After stopping the vehicle, continue idling for 5 minutes, and then turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Moreover, the vehicle should be set to the following conditions for idling.
A/C switch: OFF
Lights and all accessories: OFF
Transmission: Neutral

The rear heater does not heat up when switch is on


Troubleshooting by Symptom Poor Heater System Performance
  1. Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle. Does the engine reach normal operating temperature? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 8.
  2. Allow the engine to idle. Select the FLOOR mode. Select the minimum blower speed and the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Does the inlet heater hose feel warmer than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 6. If no, go to the next step.
  3. Install a thermometer into the center I/P PANEL air outlet. Secure a thermometer to the heater core outlet heater hose. Select the PANEL mode. Select the maximum blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Record the temperature at the center I/P PANEL air outlet and at the heater core outlet heater hose. Are the two temperature readings about equal? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 5.
  4. Inspect and repair the cowl, recirc door, and the HVAC module case for cold air leaks. If problems are found and repaired, go to step 9.
  5. Inspect the temperature door operation. Perform any necessary repairs. When repairs are made, go to step 9.
  6. Turn OFF the engine. Backflush the heater core. Start the engine. Select the FLOOR mode and the lowest blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Does the inlet heater hose feel warmer than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 9.
  7. Replace the heater core. When the repair is complete, go to step 9.
  8. Repair the low engine temperature concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 9.
  9. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system operates properly, the repair is complete. If the heater still does not work properly, repeat the entire procedure.
Insufficient Defrosting
  1. Start the engine, select the DEFROST mode, and select the maximum blower speed. Does sufficient air flow from the defroster outlets? If yes, go to the next step. If there is insufficient airflow, go to step 9.
  2. Measure the engine operating temperature. Does the engine reach normal operating temperature? If yes, go to the next step. If the engine does not reach normal operating temperature, go to step 7.
  3. Select the minimum blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Does the inlet heater hose feel warmer than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 10. If the hose temperature is not right, go to the next step.
  4. Test the operation of the A/C compressor clutch. Does the A/C compressor clutch engage? If yes, go to the next step. If the compressor clutch does not engage, go to step 6.
  5. Repair or replace the A/C compressor clutch. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  6. Repair the A/C compressor clutch concern and determine if the A/C system is operating within specifications. If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to step 11.
  7. Repair the low engine temperature concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  8. Inspect for correct operation of the recirculation door. If the door is operating correctly, go to step 13. If the door is not operating properly, go to step 12.
  9. Repair the air delivery concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  10. Repair the heating concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  11. Repair the A/C performance concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  12. Repair the recirculation door concern. When the repair is complete, go to step 13.
  13. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system is operating properly, the procedure is complete. If the system is still not providing proper defrosting, repeat the entire test
. Noise from the HVAC Module
  1. Start the engine. Cycle through all blower speeds, A/C mode settings and temperature control settings. Determine the type of noise, whether it is a scraping, popping, ticking, clicking, chirping or groaning, or an air rush or whistle. Is a scrape or pop noise evident when selecting modes or temperature settings? If yes, go to step 5. If no, go to the next step.
  2. Is a tick/click, chirping, groaning or scraping noise present, but decreases as blower motor speed is decreased? If yes, go to step 5. If no, go to the next step.
  3. Is an air rush/whistle noise evident in all modes but not all temperature settings? If yes, go to step 5. If no, go to the next step.
  4. Is an air rush/whistle noise evident only in defrost or floor mode? If yes, go to step 5. If no, examine for other sounds, repeat step 1.
  5. Remove the I/P trim pad. When complete, go to the next step.
  6. Inspect the airflow doors for proper operation and the ducts for obstructions or foreign materials. Were any of these conditions found? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to the next step.
  7. Inspect the mode and temperature doors and seals for warping or cracking. Are the doors in normal condition? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to the next step.
  8. Replace the appropriate door and/or seals. When the repair is complete, go to step 10.
  9. Remove any obstructions or foreign material found. When the repair is complete, go to step 10.
  10. Install the I/P trim pad. When complete, go to the next step.
  11. Operate the system to verify the repair. If system operates without noise, the repair is complete. If noise still exists, repeat the entire procedure.

hi it could be that you might have an air leak somewhere, obviously i am speculating as i do not know what the error codes are that they are showing, i had the same fault with my bmw and after changing many things it ended up being an air leak on the inlet manifold, what is happening is, to much air is getting into the system and the sensors are picking it up and adjusting the fuel to air mix to compensate, it then gets to the 02 sensor and sends signal back to the ecu saying the mix is incorrect for this car and then throws up an error code, once cleared from the ecu, it will just do it again when it realliese's that the mixture is incorrect again and hence light comes on again after a few days, so really what it all boils down to is get the exhaust system checked from the manifold right back to the back box ....hope this helps

Best way to change coolant in 2003 sierra


With engine cold, remove radiator cap. At bottom of radiator on left side (as you stand in fronof truck), there is a plastic drain plug that screws into the radiator. This plug does not look like a bottle cap, rather it looks like a large, raised tab. Turn counterclockwise to remove. Have a large pan under the truck at this location, or have the truck parked on the grass. Allow to drain completely. Dispose of the old antifreeze and do let children or pets drink it; it is deadly poison. If you want to do this right, replace the plug, refill the radiator with water only, replace the radiator cap, start engine and let run until opwerating temperature is reached (about 20 minutes), then turn engine off, let cool completely, and repeat the drain procedure. This will more thoroughly remove the old antifreeze from the system. Now refill the radiator with the proper mixture of new antifreeze and water, run engine to proper operating temperature. turn off engine and let cool completely. Add additional water and antifreeze into the coolant overflow bottle if necessary. After changing antifreeze, you may need to add more again after couple of days.

I recommend this procedure, starting with a cold engine: Remove the radiator cap, remove the thermostat, re-install the thermostat housing, leave the radiator cap off, start engine and idle for not less than fifteen minutes, then turn engine off. Allow engine and radiator to cool completely, then open the petcock at the bottom of the radiator, and drain completely (there will still be some coolant/water in the system).
Remove the thermostat housing again, then remove the old water pump and install a new water pump, replace the thermostat with a new one rated at 195 degrees, and be sure to install it in the proper direction. Fill radiator with water only (you don't want to waste money on antifreeze until you are sure you have heat), leave radiator cap off, start engine and let it come to operating temperature, not less than fifteen minutes. Turn engine off, and let cool compltely. Fill radiator with water only, install radiator cap, and restart vehicle. Let come to operating temperature again, not less than fifteen minutes, turn off. Let cool completely, drain radiator again if your truck got proper heat in cabin, then refill with the proper mixture of water/antifreeze. This sounds like a lot of repetition, but this will flush your entire system, boost your water pressure, and properly regulate your engine temperature. If the problem repeats in your two month window, have the radiator professionally serviced and the heater core will probably have to be replaced.
Always use the proper type and amount of anitfreeze!

I have a 2001 nissan pathfinder 4w. The OBD system-readiness status: Says catalytic converters, NOT READY; oxygen sensors, NOT READY; evaporative system, NOT READY. So did not pass inspection, I was told...


You have to re-set the obd via using Nissan's approved drive-cycle which is;

1. Start the engine when the engine coolant

temperature gauge needle points to C. Allow

the engine to idle until the gauge needle

points between the C and H (normal operating

temperature).

2. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 MPH (88

km/h), then quickly release the accelerator

pedal completely and keep it released for at

least 6 seconds.

3. Quickly depress the accelerator pedal for a

moment, then drive the vehicle at a speed

of 53 to 60 MPH (86 to 96 km/h) for at least

5 minutes.

4. Stop the vehicle.

5. Accelerate the vehicle to 35 MPH (55 km/h)

and maintain the speed for 20 seconds.

6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 at least 3 times.

7. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 MPH (88 km/h)

and maintain the speed for at least 3 minutes.

8. Stop the vehicle and turn the engine off.

9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 at least one more

time.

If step 1 through 7 is interrupted, repeat the

preceding step. Any safe driving mode is acceptable

between steps. Do not stop the engine

until step 7 is completed. If you cannot or

do not want to perform the driving pattern, a
NISSAN dealer can conduct it for you.

sounds like you just have a loose alternator belt and since the system takes longer the light s tay oon until the alternator starts charging the battery by then the engine is already warnmed uyp
