SOURCE: I changed the thermo fan switch but the fan still

yes, it can be the plug, but you can check it with a test light when the engine is hot to see if there is voltage. It might also be the cooling fan relay.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

My fans will not turn on my 1999 Monte Carlo Z34

check the thermo switch on the radiator use some wire and connect the pins, if the fans come on then change the thermo switch, if they don't come on then the relay needs replacing. thermo switch works off negative feed so there should be no sparks if their is a spark then the electrics is a problem.

Thermo fans wont turn on

locate the thermo sensor wich activate the fan's.Remove the plug and bridge out the two wires with only the ignition on.If the fan comes you need to replace the thermo sensor. If the fan still dont work then you have a wiring or relay problem. If the relay is faulty the same taes can be done as on the sensor. Find the relay and match the wiring colour that goes to the fan.On the relay harness you must test for two power supplies and bridge the one power supply to the fan wire.If the fan work;s and you do find two power supplies you only need to confirm if the wire from the sensor to the relay has continuity. If the wire is fine then you know that the relay is faulty.

FORD ESCAPE 2001 CONTINUES TO HEAT

Have you checked the thermo fans are cutting in and out. It may be the switch at the botom of the radiator or someone may have left the wire to the fan disconected probably when replaceing the radiator. or the A/C condensor might be blocked with grass stopping the air flow.

2004 Mustand Fan does not start. power is not getting to the fan.

I assume the rad. fan. on the rad or thermostat housing there will be the thermo switch, a large brass "nut" with 2 wires on it. pull the wires off and connect together, turn ignition on and the fan should cut in. if it does, the switch is faulty, just unscrew and replace. if the fan doesn't cut in then the fault could be the fuse, relay or a break in the wire. check the fuse( I am not familiar with U.S. cars).

Look on your radiator and you should find a "bolt" head, about 20mm, with 2 wires plugged into it.
This is the fan thermo switch, with the ignition on, but engine not running, connect these wires together by shorting a screwdriver accross and the fan should cut in.
If the fan works, then the switch needs replacing, just unscrew and replace.
If the fan doesn't work then there is a problem further into the circuit, fuse, relay or broken wire.

CEL is ON. OBD code P2181. I already replaced the ECT 3 mo ago due to OBD code P0118.

P2181 is a overheating engine.
Can be:
Bad fan themoswitch, temp sensor themostat water pump impeller fan motor or fuse on battery
check to see if fans work by turning on Air Conditioner (fans should run with A/C on). Turn A/C off, warm engine, check to see if fans come on, if they do NOT it may be thermo switch on radiator on lower left side, has 3 wire plug, takes 1-1/8" wrench/socket to remove.  This thermo switch controls fans when temp reaches 195F, if fans do not come on at engine temp 190-195F try  replace switch VW part number: 1J0-959--481-A  You can verify if the switch is bad by shorting wire 1 and 2 (fans should come on when jumpered).

Fan motors

Check that the fans are still working .Check that the thermo switch is working.Check that you have power to the thermo switch. and if not check relay/supply of power.Unsure with your model but the thermo switches are usualy screwed into the radiator but could be mounted on the engine. You can check your fans by running a piece of wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive side/wire of the fans.As long as the fans are earthed as well they should work and if not then the fans will need to be replaced.
