By it self NO it could be part of the problem.
Can you shift it into any gear or dose it slip in D
The first thing you need to figure out is the problem linkage or transmission related.

My 98 Dodge Dakota gets stuck between 2nd and 3rd - Only way I can get it to shift to 3rd is shift to neutral and then back to drive. What could be causing this? Automatic vehicle

Your transmission may simply need a good flush. Then again a band inside the transmission may need to be ajusted or you may have a silinoid going out. I hope this helps you out.

2000 Dodge Dakota vibration while driving

sound like the u-joints in the driveshaft. Lay under the truck and where the u-joints are try moving the driveshaft up and down. If it moves then the u-joints are bed. This will cause a tremendous vibration under a load and the faster it spins it will smooth out.

1989 Dodge Dakota 2WD Auto Trans won't start in park

Thats right, it's a neutral safety. There is a wire running beside the shifting linkage at the tranny. It has to be broke or cracked. It may even have come umplugged. There is no safety issue though. I would feel comfortable with my son driving it. The biggest problem would be putting it in nuetral and it still not starting. Hope this helps.

We have 1995 dodge dakota truck and u can be driving down the road and it cuts off after sitting for hours it will crank back up

i had the same problem. as soon as i would put it in gear, it would just stop, almost like somebody just turned off the ignition. if that is the same problem your having, or if not.. check the neutral safety switch or for loose wires or plugs. sometimes the vibration will jar them loose and cause the neutral safety switch to engage, if not. have your power control mod tested.. hope that helps your problem
