What was the performance ford ranchero 1978 ?

You should be able to find a Websearch for this. In 1978, Ford had an LTD II which seems to be the platform which was converted for the truck version called a Ranchero. The unit had a 302 and a 351 as options but I can not tell you if the 351 was a Cleveland or Windsor design. I believe at some point there was a GT version that may have shown up in the Ranchero. Usually body tape, different wheels, an emblem, and maybe different axle ratio.

We went to look at a Polaris 500, it's a 2000, and only has 536 miles on it. When we finally got it started the lady parked it in reverse and it won't shift back out of reverse? Any ideas? Help?

try to remove the positive cable from the battery and switch on all lights, headlights ,park lights, step on the brake pedals , switch on ignition but do not start it. this is just to drain all remain electricity. then after doing so, switch off all the above mention lights and ignition. install back the positive cable to the battery. step on brakes pedal and start your engine, now try to shift gears from reverse to N then to P .

Its likely the electronics and sensors inside the tranny.
Take it into a reliable tranny shop and pay for a diagnosis (only).

Im puting a 1985 ford aod trans into a 66 ranchero and need to know what the 4 wires coming out of the transmission are for

Typically these are for the neutral safety control and the backup lights...

To test, take an ohm meter and connect two of the wires. One set should connect in park and neutral, and one set connect only in reverse...
