Nobody has messed around with the ignition timing in any way?

If it has stood for a long time(i.e years..) the fuel may have degraded to the point that it\'s useless.

The carbs will smell of fuel, but are you sure that fuel is being pumped to them in sufficient quantity? Try disconnecting a fuel line, crank the engine a few revolutions to see if fuel is pumped out.

Try gravity feeding the carbs. Use a can of fuel connected to the carbs, held above the engine. Get somebody to crank the engine and see if it fires up. If the engine fires up, suspect the fuel pump.. or fuel lines.

An air leak can also cause non-starting. The usual cause is the inlet manifold gasket. Any air leaking through the gasket can cause your non-starting problem. Go back and check that no dirt has been picked up by the gasket before you fitted it/it hasn\'t been ripped. Check that the inlet manifold has been correctly tightened.

It doesn\'t sound as though you have much of a problem .. more of a \'niggle\'.

Car it turn over, seam like don't get any fuel in the engine and my key has chip in it. do you think it could be the chip on the key or the fuel pump?

You first need to make sure that not getting fuel is the problem. I doubt that it has to do with the key because it is an older vehicle. You need 2 major things in order for your vehicle to start and that is fuel of course and good spark to your spark plugs. Check both of those to see where the problem is. Air is a big factor for an engine to run as well but spark and fuel are the major things. If in fact it is a fuel related problem, there are a few things you can check first before you decide it's a fuel pump problem. The first one is to check to see if the fuel pump cut off switch as "popped". I gave you a picture below of its location and if you see the blue arrow that is pointing down on the switch, that's where you push to see if the button has "popped". If it has you will be able to tell when you push it. you will here it go back in place by a lttle click. The second would be to check the fuse to the fuel pump relay. This fuse is located in the power distribution box located in the engine compartment. That fuse is in the number 9 position in the box (below is a picture of the location as well as a layout diagram of the fuses). If that is good then you can check the fuel pump relay itself. That relay is located in that same box but will be the relay in the number 5 position. You can have someone turn the key to the "on" position (without even starting it) and when they are doing it have your finger on it to feel if it clicks on. It will only click on for 3 - 5 seconds and then shut off with the key in just the on position. Then next is to make sure you're getting power to the fuel pump itself by using a test light to make sure at the plug at the pump. If you're not getting spark to the spark plugs, all this information I gave you is useless but hopfully the fuel is the issue now that you have the information. I hope this helps and good luck.

My car will not start, the battery is good

Here is a check list to go through.
Check battery cables to make sure there is no corrosion around the points where they connect. If corroded get baking soda and place in the area of the corrosion, next get some warm water and place enough on the baking soda to get it to bubble it will eat away the acid and neutralize any corrosion. You may have to disconnect the wires and wire brush clean them and then reconnect them.
Check the spark, by disconnecting one of your spark plug wires and holding it withing a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the plug you removed it from, have someone turn on the ignition like on and off. See if you have spark to the engine. If so, the chances are your coil may be bad or the problem could be in the starter motor or the electronic ignition system.
Check with the Manufacturers web site and give them all the information you can if the suggestions I have provided do not work. Every manufacterer has a web site and you look up the model and year and then you will find information that should help.
Have a nice day.

Do you know how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter , how to use a wiring diagram to pin point testing points in a electrical circuit ? How to use voltage drop testing in a circuit to find which part of the circuit has the problem B+ or ground side . Yes it can be very agrivating if you don't know what your doing . Testing for power at the relay an testing for control . The PCM - engine computer controls the fuel pump relay ! Here is a web site for free wiring diagrams ! Enter your vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size ! Under system click on engine , under subsystem click on fuel controls . Click the search button an three links will pop up . Carb popping at high accelaration

hi this could be a timing fault, it sounds like the valves are opening at the wrong time, making the fuel build up in the pots and of course when it does spark that's when you get the big bang, the built up fuel burning , try checking your timing as you actually might be 180dgs out on the distributor not the engine....hope that helps

I need a fuse box diagram for a 1997 mazda protege dx. i have misplaced the owners manual and the diagram is not on the panel door. looking for the fuel pump fuse, specifically. When I prime the cylinder...

Yes - sounds like a Pump fuse, relay, or a pump...When you cycle the key (off-on-start-on) do you hear the pump running?
The fuel pump fuse may be under the hood with the other engine fuses - and it well may not be -(there is an accessory fuse box that has all the fuses for the inside accessories in it - located in the passenger compartment somewhere)- also check the kick panels at the drivers left foot and the passengers right foot -(If they pop off easily - The fuse box plastic cover will pop off easily, not attached with screws - so if you see screws or nuts, it won't be there) Look up under the dash on the drivers side, and also lastly check in the glove box- If you cannot find it, I'd see if I could find a Mazda "lovers" web-site - Often they post what is called "component locator" information, that would tell you exactally where it is (Normally you have to pay for access to that information - gotta love the web), or you may be able to locate a electronic owners manual there as well which will definitely tell you ...Best of luck and hope that helps some....

Try a honda civic forum online or maybe autozones free auto repair information site online. Check your fuel pressure, spark, timing and air flow meter. When was the last time the car was tuned up? Check air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap+rotor and the ignition timing. Check for loose or corrosion around and or on contact points of wiring ( power, ground, and your spark plug wires if theres any sign of wear or corrosion.) Make sure fuel is fresh and not stale from aging over time.
