Question about 1993 Dodge Shadow

Turns over but won't start

The motor turns over, but won't start. The fuel pump is strong. My wife was driving it, and it just stalled. The timing chain is good, I just checked it. I cleaned the corrosion from the contacts of the distributor cap, and it still won't start.

Pull out one of the spark plugs plug it in to plug wire run a jumper wire to the body or hook of the plug to ground the jumper must go to a suitable ground. pull out pcv hose to prevent car from starting have an assistant turn over the engine while you check for a strong blue or purple spark if the spark looks white or yellow there is a weak ignition condition and this must be adressed, bad ignition module bad cap and wires, etc. do the cap and rotor first if the spark is weak. If there is a strong spark sometimes holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning over the car for no more than 10 seconds starts stubborn motors do not let up on gas if car begins to start not until the motor starts to rev up.

My 97 infinity shut off wile driving and wont start


If the problem is the fuel pump, its not because someone put regular gas in the tank. The only problem that would cause is the computer would have to turn back the spark timing to keep the engine from knocking.
You would check for spark to the plugs and fuel pressure as with any no start issue.

Sounds like a timing chain , worst case, Would you say it's turning over almost too freely?? Look under your cap, and turn motor over, the rotor shouldn't turn if the timing chain is gone, but may turn if it jumped it's timing. Then you'll have to have a look under the timing cover . let me know if this helps

Motor turns over won't start. Cleaned terminals, put in new battery, still won't start. Removed gas cap to vent air on hot day, still won't start. Lights all come on, all electrics appear to...


Your problem may be one of the following:
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they get loud or stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack is bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem.
The clicking noise indicates the battery can no longer run the starter, which also means the fuel pump won't run either.

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK.

97 chevy blazer w/ 4.3 won't start unless i pour full directly into it....what is causing this. was driving and it just stalled ...fires but won't turn over completely


if you can put fuel in throttle body and it runs. then it is not getting any fuel. check your fuel pump fuse and the relay, if ok, then you may have a bad fuel pump or a plugged up fuel filter. check filter and fuses first. good-day !!

Car turns over but wont start


Possible fuel pump or ignition coil. I know this is vague, but without seeing it, that's all I got. Chrysler has had a bad habit of mounting the ignition coil too close to the left exhaust manifold on 318s and 360s (5.2s and 5.9s). problem with that is, the thing gets VERY hot and breaks down, over time. Does anyone who drives the Durango have the nasty habit of driving when the gas light is on? The fuel pump is in the fuel tank to submerge it in gas, keeping it cool. Without the fuel present to cool the pump, eventually it burns itself out. Honestly, this seems like the most likely problem..... Not that either you or your wife would let the fuel get that low :). If the truck is 10 years old or so, has high mileage, or has had problems stalling when warm, then not restarting for an hour or so, it's time to look at the fuel pump. Know that the fuel pump on a Dodge Durango/Ram/Dakota is actually an assymply, with the pump built in and a massive screen. Usually runs around $550, parts, alone. Hope this helps, at least a little!
