Make sure all lines are light when turning engine over. While turning engine over loosen the a line closes to pump or the fuel filter. You should get some fuel. Then continue on all lines working farther away.

SOURCE: Just replaced rack and pinion and pump, steering

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
You may have air in the fluid line that's why it goes stiff. As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you turn the steering wheel left and right on max for the fluid to circulate properly. You may need to add up fluid while you perform the procedure. I believe you'll be good after.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 2004 nissan hardbody 3.0 lt diesel pick up is running out of feul in the pump changed all the filters and checked all feul lines for leaks but nothing can it be electrical or is it the diesel pump it...

the fuel pick-up in the tank has a sock on it to filter out any large debris to keep it from damaging the fuel pump, that sock can become clogged and prevent adequate amounts of fuel from getting to the pump thereby starving the pump

How do I set the fuel pump timing on a Mitsubishi s4s diesel engine?

As far as I am aware, you don't set the timing on a fuel pump. It pumps fuel to maintain a set pressure, and just keeps running until you turn off the engine.

ATT.NET7.3 POWERSTROKE WONT IDLE 99 MODEL

According to my Haynes Diesel Engine Repair manual this is a list of possible causes.
1.Slow idle incorrectly adjusted
2.Fast idle is inoperative
3.Restricted fuel return system
4.Glow plugs turn off too soon
5.Insufficient fuel suuply to injector pump
6.Injector pump malfunction
7.Incorrect, contaminated or poor quality fuel
8.Air in fuel.
The manual is part number 10330 anywhere they sell Haynes manuals ($20). It has a very good section on the 7.3 especially if you don't want to spend money at a diesel shop every time it needs work. Hope this helps.

Power steering has gone stiff..peugeot 307....2002 diesel

Bring it to a repair shop. iIs either the pump or the rack and either way you need special tooling and expertise as well as specification to do pressure testing on both items. the pump repair is not to bad but if its the rack $$$$$$$$ and a pain to do.

Power steering keeps going stiff all the time

There are 2 things that cause power steering to go stiff. The power steering pump itself either from failure or "lack of fluid" and the rack and pinion assy under the car.
Most of the time the failure is the power steering pump itself. The teflon rollers fail inside the pump and it either stops providing an output pressure or it seizes up. You can loosen the power steering pump belt then try to rotate the pump by hand. It should move by hand. If it feels like it is intermittently locking up as you rotate, it the teflon rollers have failed and the pump will need to be replaced.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi, I have a 2006 3.0 diesel and the in tank fuel pump has become very noisey. It still runs normal.

sounds like the bearings in the pump motor are on their way out. If the drag gets too much the pump will slow and eventually stop, might be worth getting one now and keeping it in stock in case you get stuck somewhere with no spare.

I ran out of diesel on A4 1.9TDI B6 2003 avant refuelled and have been unable to restart. Fuel is getting to the filter and tandem pump

Have you tried removing the airlock. When you run out of oil and keep restarting the oil goes so low that air enters the fuel system and gets locked inside. there is a pump on the fuel pump. Unlatch it and pump till it becomes free. Then crank the engine and hear it purr.

My steering wheel is starting to become stiff. But I had put some power steering fluid in it and its still getting a little stiff.

3 possibilities come to mind,
pump
rack and pinion
ball joints or top suspension leg bearing

89 f250 7.3 diesel, brakes went very stiff, still stops but must press extremely hard , replaced grommet in power booster, but still same

the problem is caused by either a failed power brake booster vacuum diaphram or a loss of vacuum to the booster, most likely the booster is defective, if this is a diesel then check the enginge driven vacuum pump.
