SOURCE: had a cambelt break on

Its because your pistons on 1&4 are up top that is why your bent valves got bent you are doing exactly the same thing so turn the crank back 15degrees position your cam and reset your crank,it seems to me you may be out of your depth lets hope not or it may be expensive

Hi Jenny, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Im sorry Jenny but unfortunately the vw2ze engine is an interference engine and if the timing belt breaks it will damage parts and will be very costly. Again, very sorry.

My timing belt broke on my 2003 hundred Santa fe . I need to figure out if the valves or Pistons were damaged.

every cylinder do a compression test

if low or no compression
heads off to repair and check piston damage

if original motor is beyond repair
you can fit a used motor in from a wrecker

when timing belt breaks
it is the type of engine.. that pistons will hit valves
bend them or damage valve guides in the heads

Does NP200 Nissan bakkie bend velves when cambelt breaks

your fear is REAL ,your valve will be down when piston comes up, if you take your time and have no destractions you can do it follow instructions carefully ,and roll motor over by hand first before starting ,get an repair manual ,most part stores can get the one you need , its cheep 15.00 compaired to 300.00 in damages.

Can an engine rev when cambelt is taken off?

Hi

To answer your question directly......NO, the engine can not rev when the cambelt is removed, it won't even start. This is virtually impossible for any 4 stroke engine.

i will explain why....... The cambelt connects your camshaft with your crankshaft, when the engine was assembled, the camshaft and crankshaft was turned on the correct alignment marks and the cambelt was fitted. These marks on the cam and crankshaft allows the 4 strokes to happen at the correct time(intake stroke, compression stroke, power stroke and exhaust stroke) If the cambelt had to be removed, there will be serious damage done to your engine, in the first place, the car will not start if the cambelt was removed. the correlation between your camshaft and crankshaft will not correspond and the pistons will hit and damage the valves.

I hope the above description will help you.

Cambelt broke in je v6. is motor stuffed

Probably not. The valves will be bent requiring a head job and a visual inspection will reveal any damage to the piston tops. This would be unusual as the valve stems bend very easily.

My car charade 1997 got a broken cambelt is it ok to put brand new belt or it damadge my valves thank you for your advice

if you set the timing and put it on you may be lucky enough that it might be fine how ever most of those motors bend valves if it makes any noise disassemble and replace head some can even bust pistons good luck

2000 chevy S10 timing chain or belt? if broken will valves hit pistons?

if its a 2.2ltr its a timeing chain and the r known for failing they have a cheap plastic slide that wears out prematurely causing the chain to jump or sometimes break. ive fixed a lot of them so i dont think its an interferince fit engine if its v6 4.3ltr u hardly ever have a problem with the timeing chain. its usually the gear at the bottom of the distributer wears out

Cambelt or chain

Your 2005 VW Golf has a timing belt and not a chain.
Most importantly, your VW has what's called an interference engine.
If th eblt breaks, it will allow the valve to collide with the pistons and you will have major damage.

Be very careful to replace the belt on or before the manufacturer's recommended replacement interval.

VW originally recommended 60k miles or 5 years but that in 2004 or 2005 they changed that to 40k miles or 3 years after seeing belts (and therefore pistons and valves) go pop after about 45k.

Does it bend anything when 1.8 tddi ford focus cambelt breaks

Valve stems normally. In extreme cases can damage pistons and con rods as the piston comes up and hits the valve which is jammed open in the cylinder

Toyota Caldina cambelt broke. Valve damage?

Sorry to say there is most likely quite expensive damage to the valve train and pistons. A new cam belt can be installed and the motor rotated to see if it is turning freely after which you would do a compression check (lack of compression will indicate bent or broken valves). I've never seen a diesel break a belt and avoid damage, virtually always a catastrophic failure.
