Start on each head as follows centre 4 head bolts anti clockwise then outer 4 bolts the same 30nm then + 90degrees then slacken all 360 degrees, then all +90degrees then +90 degrees in that sequence and definately use new bolts sounds complicated but is the genuine way it should be done but is easy in practice if you know what you doing with the correct tools hope this helps worked on these engines from day one

Bolt torque sequence on 1991 jaguar xj6 4.0 intake manifold?


intake manifold or head gasket? i know head gasket need a sequential order followed by how many degrees and Lbs of pressure. if its on the intake i doubt it needs an specific torque. just try not to crack the intake manifold since its made of plastic.

The Head bolt torque is as follows:

1. Tighten all bolt in the sequence shown in the image below to 22 ft. lbs.
2. Tighten all bolt in the sequence shown in the image below to 45 ft. lbs.
3. Check all bolt to verify they are torqued to 45 ft.lbs in the sequence shown below.
4. Tighten bolts in sequence:
a. Bolts 1-10 to 110 ft.lbs.
b. Bolt 11 to 100 ft. lbs.
c. Bolts 12-14 to 110 ft.lbs.

If you are reusing the head bolts carefully check the bolts for necked down threads.

The main bearing cap bolts are torqued to 80 ft. lbs.

The connecting rod nuts are torqued to 33 ft. lbs.

Since you didn't say which engine you have, I've pulled torque specs for 3 different engines. Also, since I can't include a diagram showing the relative locations of the numbered head-bolt locations, it would be a good idea for you to purchase a vehicle specific repair guide that will show this info.


Take particular note about the TTY (Torque to Yield) bolts used on 2 of the 3 engines shown. It is said that new head bolts MUST BE USED when head is replaced or re-installed to obtain the proper torque.



B2500 4 Cylinder

Torque sequence: --------- ' 10 6 2 4 8 ' front ' ' ' 7 3 1 5 9 ' -----------Step 1: torque in sequence to 51 Ft/Lbs Step 2: torque again in sequence to 51 Ft/Lbs Step 3: final tighten all bolts an additional 90 to 100 degrees recheck final torque in sequence *** CAUTION ***engine uses Torque To Yield head bolts (TTY) that permanently stretch during the initial installation.   1. CAUTION: Always install new cylinder head bolts. NOTE: Lubricate the cylinder head bolts with Super Premium 5W 30 SAE X0-5W 30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G prior to installation. Install the cylinder head assembly and tighten the cylinder head bolts in the following sequence.
  1. Tighten all bolts in a single sequence to 50 Nm
  2. Back the bolts off 1/2 turn.
  3. Tighten the bolts in sequence shown to 50 Nm .
  4. Rotate all the bolts in a single sequence an additional 180 degrees in two steps of 90 degrees each.

  1. Use a new oil pan gasket. Tighten the bolts, in the sequence shown, to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2. Tighten the pan-to-transmission bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  3. Tighten the access cover bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4. Tighten the compressor bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  5. Refill the engine with oil.
  6. Install the transfer case.

Looking for torque specs on a hyundai accent gl for the head bolts



  1. For 3.0L engines, tighten head bolts in sequence to 76-83 ft. lbs. (105-115 Nm).
  2. For 2.5L engines, tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. Step 1: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    2. Step 2: Plus 60-64 degree turn.
