A lot of what I am seeing in the forums is saying the alternators are notorious for malfunctioning, and eventually mess up the starter, alternator, and battery. How long has it been doing this?

Just happen this last week .just replace the alternator a few weeks ago. Just replace the batteries last week and starter thinking that was fixing the no crank problem . I think i have a bad neutral safety switch cause had to start the truck in neutral. Wont start in park .

That's 100% it, because the car cant regulate the normal starting voltage cause it doesn't know its in park.

So the neutral safety switch is the problem causing the starter to burn up

  • Ron the Don Dec 04, 2016

It has to be, that switch is a pretty damn important piece of the puzzle in terms of what it does in the process of starting the truck, not too mention diesels need an insane amount of cranking amperage in comparison to gasoline motors. I would start with the NSS for sure, almost promise you it should fix the issue.

Yeah let me know on here how it goes, I had an old 7.3 for years that I tricked out, and did a lot of bulletproofing too.

1991 F-150. Why does the starter solenoid keep burning out?

Solenoid burning up usually is due to either starter motor drawing too many amps, or factory cables being too small gauge wire.

How do i install a starter on a 2001 ford ranger ?

It is a simple task. First make sure to disconnect the battery's negative cable from the battery. Unbolt the starter wiring. Hold the replacement starter in position and make tighten the bolts. Bolt the starter wiring to the new starter. You can get starter for 2001 ford ranger at http://www.buyautoparts.com/autoparts/2001/Ford/Ranger/Starter.html
