CAR switches itself off when fuel is on querter tank


check the calibration of the sender unit as may actually be on empty. Find out the exact capacity of the tank and add a known amount of fuel and see where the gauge reads. For example if the tank is 60 ltrs or 20 gallons add 5 gallons and see where the gauge reads. 5 gallons in 20 gallons should read 1/4 or in your case after the engine stops should read 1/4 full. If it reads 1/2 then the sender is out.

I just filled up my tank and now the light is on and the tank shows empty?


{: ) Your fuel level sensor could be intermittently reading high resistance and may need replacement. An intermittent reading can happen at any level (say 1/4, 1/2, 3/4) and will suddenly give you an empty reading and fuel light, sometimes an SES light may follow. At any rate, this kind of symptoms still recommends replacement of the fuel level sensor.
You can observe it by yourself. Does it read normal on lets say half full but will read empty when you can calculate that you still have 1/4 remaining on your tank. In your case you've just filled it full, and it's no different once the fuel level sensor start getting erratic readings.
Although it may take time, you can wait until the fuel level stabilizes to a certain lower level where you think your gauge was reading normally before. You can also do some stop and go, forward and reverse, to slosh the level arm to a a more readable position. Check if you can get clearer results out of this trick.
A scan tool is a better tool to determine quickly the condition of the sensor and may tell also if there are other codes that is related to your problem.

Heavy fuel odor in car. 1/4 tank drained in about a mile of driving. Added 2 gallons, drove 3 miles and car stopped. Fuel tank reading empty again. Now won't start.


Better have this looked at as soon as possible.This could be a very dangerous situation.Could cause a fire hazard.If you can`t see any leaks then get it checked out by a service shop.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Air conditioner compressor runs - freon is up to proper level....not cooling??


BOTH High and low readings should be checked to have a better idea of what is going on with an AC system but based on the limited information… the compressor is not engaged or is not pumping. Below are some things I would check;

1. Check the high and low gauge readings with the AC on & set on MAX/Recirculate, middle vents with the engine at 2,000 RPM’s, blower speed on high.

2. Check the vent temperatures with a thermometer from the middle vents, far right & far left vents?

3. What is the outside temperature at the time the readings were taken?
4. Check to see if the condenser fan blowing strong?

5. Notice if compressor clutch is cylcling excessively.
Could be overcharged, not enough air going across condenser fins, compressor not pumping sufficiently… BOTH gauge readings are really needed to get a better idea.
Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI

Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI

Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI

Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor

My a.c is not cooling i put freon in and my compressor will only come on every now an then i replaced the switch in the dash but still did not help i did use a jumper wire to my compressor and it...


You may not have enough R134a in the system, or you have over charged the system and your high pressure switch is turning your compressor off when the pressure get's to high.
You really need a A/C gauge set to see of your system is over or under charge. If it's under charge, that's good. A over charged system will cause your a costly repair of replacing a $300.00 rebuilt compressor plus the vacuuming out the system and replacing the accumulator which may have parts from the compressor (bearing).

How many quarts does the refill take after draining fluid? 2004 kia sedona. the guys at the service desk of the kia dealership where i bought the fluid said between 4 and 5 quarts. the service amnual says...


I would say 4 to 5 quarts, like the guys at the dealership. It takes 9 quarts when the torque converter is empty, it holds close to 4 quarts. You might want to wait a bit to check the level after filling to get a more precise reading. You may have been low on transmission fluid when you drained it. The one I drained had at least 4 quarts in it, not counting the torque converter.

Fuel gauge not working all the time.


This is a normal concern.
The instrument cluster uses 4 different operating modes to calculate the fuel level:
Anti-slosh (default mode)
Key OFF fueling
Key ON fueling
Recovery
After a fuel fill up, the time for the fuel gauge to move from empty (E) to full (F) ranges from 2 seconds to 55 minutes depending on which operating mode the fuel gauge is in.
The default fuel gauge mode is called the anti-slosh mode. To prevent fuel gauge changes from fuel slosh (gauge instability due to changes in fuel sender readings caused by fuel moving around in the tank), the fuel gauge takes approximately 55 minutes to go from empty (E) to full (F).
The key OFF fueling mode (2 seconds to read empty [E] to full [F]) requires 3 conditions be met:
The key must be in the OFF position throughout the entire refueling of the vehicle.
At least 15% of the vehicle's fuel capacity must be added to the fuel tank.
The instrument cluster must receive a valid key ON fuel sender reading within 1 second of the key being put into the RUN position. The key ON sample readings are considered valid if the fuel sender reading is between 15 ohms ± 2 ohms and 160 ohms ± 4 ohms.
If these conditions are not met, the fuel gauge stays in the anti-slosh mode, which results in a slow to read full (F) event.
The key ON fueling mode (approximately 90 seconds to read empty [E] to full [F]) requires 3 conditions be met:
The transmission is in PARK (P).
The key is in the RUN position.
At least 15% of the vehicle's fuel capacity must be added to the fuel tank.
In key ON fueling mode, a 30-second timer activates after the transmission is put into the PARK (P) position (automatic transmissions). When the 30-second time has elapsed and at least 15% of the vehicle's fuel capacity has been added, the fuel gauge response time is 90 seconds to read from empty (E) to full (F). When the transmission is shifted out of PARK (P), the fuel gauge strategy reverts to the anti-slosh mode. The key on refueling mode prevents slow to read full events from happening if the customer refuels the vehicle with the key in the RUN position.
Recovery mode is incorporated into the instrument cluster strategy to recover from a missing fuel level input during a refueling event. Missing fuel level inputs result from intermittent opens in the fuel sender or its circuits. Recovery mode (empty [E] to full [F] approximately 20 minutes) is initiated when the following 2 conditions are met:
The instrument cluster is in the anti-slosh (default) mode.
The actual fuel level in the tank is greater than what is being displayed by the fuel gauge
