Check you transmision fluid while the car is running if it is low that is the problem, it is possible that the transmision filter is dirty and needs to be replaced with new transmission fluid try those two things first.

Sorry my friend but you have to bring your Grand Am in to have the transmission serviced. There is no Dip stick to check your transmission fluid, it needs to be sent in to a transmission shop or back to the dealer. There are to many things that can be causing this problem, but you should take care not to run it to hard to keep you from burning out the clutch packs which would be a more costly repair, rather then just a faulty transmission line pressure servo going bad. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help you get your car running 100% again.

There is more to the throttle then just the pedal. The cable at the other end by the throttle body could have been stuck or the throttle position sensor had an issue.

Hello, I have a 2000 grand prix gt shift into gear and drive fine

Sounds like the filter might be plugging up. I would have it serviced. Do you have a check engine light on? How long do you have to leave the engine off before it will start moving again?

Can i put a pontiac grand prix gt engine into my

Not very cheap. For one the motor is substantially larger/wider and the hp/torque is over 2x's that of a sunfire so the unibody may not handle the extra power. You would have to use the complete front end from motor to trans to axles and ECu to run it. It would be very difficult but would be possible , dependin on the shop I would say $3000-$4000 as a lot of mods will be needed.

The ignition key will not turn to turn the car on

Hi Key,

Does the key turn at all?

When you turn the key does the engine turn over or just click?

If the engine turns, is it strong or barely moving.

Please comment back with as much detail as possible, help us help you

Best regards,
Mike

My steering wheel won't move in my 2000 pontiac grand am gt...I can still put the car in drive, reverse, etc. But the steering wheel is not moving at all.

it may be your steering lock try and move the steering left and right whilst turning the ignition or an old car thief trick is just keep pull down to one side on the wheel until the steering lock snaps or shears and it should be free to turn after that good luck

try this.
PASS LOCK RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.
