why say don't have.?
and is mandatory ,that you do. (hard cold facts.)
all autostores here, rent them or in most cases loan them.
Best is to have one in your tool box, before something messes up?
they sell em on fleabay for a whole $9 (USB type) any laptop.PC.
The CEL is on or D lamp or OD flashing is your clue to scan it.
why work blind?
the autostores do that , because the customer scans it, sees codes
and then buys a bunch of parts that are not bad on his car,
they get rich off this. (smart guys, huh?)
what a mech, does is read the code, then sees the FSM
it then tells the mech, which tests to do to isolate the real cause of the failure. there are like 10 tests on any one bad A./T
to find out if it can be fixed in car or out.
called on car tests.
here read the tranny pages, , its here
in your case this car is shifted electronically
by a device, called a TCM (tranny brain)
it does the shift commands, at ALL TIMES.
like all control brains, if the inputs are bad so will be the output)
so we check this first. as it is only a TCM and a hand full of inputs.
we check them, (after scanning not before)
sometimes the TCM is working but the valve body is bad
some mechs, will replace a bad solenoid in the valve body.
in some cases the whole valve body, $300 + part.
but in most cases if the TCM and inputs are good and the solenoids
are good, the tranny is replaced.
This is what the FSM coverers is how to do the test to prove all this out.
