Question about 2004 BMW 5 Series

1 Answer

Bmw x5 doesn't start, all the lights turn on but no crank?

I'm pretty sure it is an electronic issue, just can't figure what component.

It starts interminately. I'll turn the key and it won't do anything. Then after trying a few times it sometimes starts. Once it starts, i'll turn it on and off and it works perfect. Let it sit a few minutes, then nothing again. Solenoid seems to be ok, relay seems to be ok, same with the ignition switch. My key is old meaning the battery to open the doors is dead, but that wouldn't have anything to do with the no start. Not sure though.

AFTER THE VEHICLE STARTS AND YOU WAIT 10 TO 15 SEC THE MEMORY ON THE KEY WILL BE LOST.. DIGNOSITICS WILL DETERMINE WEATHER THE TRANSPONDER RING OR KEY IS FAULTY AND THE RELAY IN THE CONTROL MIT BE FAULTY MEANING THE UNIT WILL HAVE TO CHANGED.

Check for other codes. A crank position sensor failure will cause a Trans fail and could prevent the engine from starting.

2002 bmw x5 4.6 wont start, it has power to the starter all the lights are on but when you turn the key,it will not even turn over not even a crank,it does nothing any ideas?

try jumping the X5 with another car. if it starts, then the battery is too weak start the SAV. if it doesn't start while jumping, try moving the transmission lever forward and aft, then back to park and give it a try. if no joy, see if it will start in neutral. i don't believe the brake has to be applied; mine doesn't.

when all else fails, try this site: www.x5world.com , go to forums and either use the search function at the bottom of the page. if search produces no results, then join and ask them. a wealth of info on this site.
