i have had a problem like this. i had to replace my transmission sensor. would recommend having the sensor tested and replaced if necessary.

Your Vehicles on board computer may need a update to resolve the problem, my 07 dodge would do the same until i got my computer updated..

that shop missed the problem. dodge durangos have a common ****** problem. Is there any codes on it. It sounds as your 1st and 2nd shift solenoid are not working

I suspect that it could be a faulty pressure control sensor unit
run the fault codes and check for such a fault or a TCC solenoid /servo not operating properly
